Stanley Smith Obituary

Smith, Stanley
SLINGERLANDS -
Stanley James (Stan) Smith, age 73, died unexpectedly in his home on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born and raised in Potsdam, N.Y. to Yvette Smith and the late Aras Smith.
Stan found his identity and greatest satisfaction in life as an athlete, then as a father. Those loves were intertwined throughout his adult life as he watched, cheered, coached and contributed to the athletic endeavors of his children, stepchildren and grandchildren. He was a lifelong golfer and, most recently, played pickleball several times a week. He loved Sunday afternoon football and hosting an annual Superbowl party.
Stan was compassionate to the suffering of others and generous to those in need. He sought to meet financial needs for family and friends when he could. He volunteered in his home church of Delmar Full Gospel, with the Lion's Club, as an EMT and at the Capital District Rescue Mission. He'd want to be remembered for his wit and sense of humor, most of which isn't fit for print, but is encouraged to be shared at his Memorial service!
He was predeceased by his father, Aras, and his partner, Susan MacMillan. He is survived by his mother, Yvette; brothers, Brian and Clark (Sharon); sisters, Carol, Joanne (Dane), Kate (Gary), Jacqui and Susie; his children, Kristie (Damon), Katie (Oscar) and Joshua (Kim); their mother, Lynne Murray Smith; grandchildren, Gabriel (20), Emilia (17), Mollie (15), Adeline (13), Nathan (11), Kaleb (nine), Sophie (nine), Evan (eight), and Connor (seven); Susan's children, Sydney (Chaz), Taylor, Kyle and Hayden MacMillan. He has many friends and colleagues who will miss him, especially Rachel, a dear friend and companion. His family finds comfort in knowing he'd made peace with his faith in his last days.
All are invited to say a final goodbye and share stories about Stan at a Celebration of Life on Monday, January 27, from 2-7 p.m., at S&S Brewery: 174 Middle Rd., Nassau, N.Y. 12123. Those wishing to share should reach out to Kristie Mletzko at [email protected]

Stan was my cousin and we all grew up together. He was a great guy and very funny. I hadn't seen him in years but remember him fondly.
My condolences to all his family.

Stan and I were classmates at PCHS. We graduated same year. He was friendly, caring, great in sports. A spirit to be missed definitely. Prayers for his family.

My condolences to Stan´s entire family. He was our assistant basketball coach back in 1973. He was very helpful and supportive to the girls as we were trying to break into the sports world. I have fond memories of that time. May he rest in peace.
