Steven Seymour Obituary

SCHAGHTICOKE Steven G. Seymour, 53, of Oak Street, died unexpectedly Friday, July 4, 2003 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken while playing golf with friends. Born in Troy, September 14, 1949, Mr. Seymour was the son of George and Mabel (Aldrich) Seymour of Schaghticoke and the beloved husband of 32 years of Kathleen E. (Dowling) Seymour of Schaghticoke, who survives. Steven and Kathy were married on October 10, 1970. Steven was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central High School, class of 1967 and attended both Hudson Valley Community College and Albany Business College, where he earned a degree in computer programming. Mr. Seymour was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Air Force Reserve. He served in active duty from August 1969 until June 1973, and as a reservist until June 1975. During his enlistment, he worked as an Avionics Systems Specialist while stationed in the United States and in Vietnam. At discharge, Steven had earned the rank of sergeant grade E-4. For the past 15 years, Steven had been employed by Ikon Office Solutions in Center Brunswick as a field service manager. A man who enjoyed spending time with his family, Steven was known as a handyman to his neighbors and friends. He could often be found puttering in his basement working on his latest project or mowing the lawn at his home or the house across the street. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Schaghticoke and a former member of the Victor Fellowcraft Bowling League. He was an avid stock car and NASCAR Winston Cup fan, and at one time assisted as a pit-crew member on his brother-in-law's race team. In addition to his wife and parents, Steven is survived by his loving daughter, Danielle (Christian) Smialek and his two beautiful grandchildren, William and Peter Smialek, all of Rochester; three sisters, Ellie (Larry) Dufrain of Victory Mills, Debbie (Bill) Hamilton of Schaghticoke, and Winnona Seymour Brust of Valley Falls; a brother, Ray (Terri) Seymour of Schaghticoke; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Stewart) Dowling of Schaghticoke; three brothers-in-law, Timothy D. Wiley of Johnsonville, Michael Dowling and his companion Cristina Young of Tomhannock and Joseph Dowling of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Steven was predeceased by his sister, Minnie M. Wiley, who died January 23, 2003, and his father-in-law, the late William Dowling. A funeral service and calling hours will be held at the United Presbyterian Church in Schaghticoke at a time and date to be determined. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad, Route 40, Schaghticoke, NY 12154, in memory of Steven G. Seymour.

Dearest Kathy,
I can't find the words to tell you how very sorry we were to hear about Steve. He was a very special person. I shall always remember how very thoughtful he always was of everyone, especially, me and your Mom. He was such a good son-in law and I know Bea loved him like a son. I hurt so badly for the loss that you, Cris, and Mike will experience. One of the many memories I will remember of Steve was the video at Daniell's wedding. There was so much love and pride in his eyes when he danced with "his little girl" to the tune of 'You Are My Sunshine". All of our times together will be very special memories for me, cookouts, race parties, and Lebanon Valley races. Lots of happy times!!! God Bless you Kathy and all of the family. I wanted to be there for all of you. This is one of those times when there are just too many miles between me and family. My love to you all. Joyce

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Steve's passing. My condolences to the family. Sorry I am away at training school in Chicago this week, which keeps me from being there. I am with you in thought and spirit, and share your loss.

I just want to say how sorry I am to hear about the passing of a childhood friend. I know that he is in a better place. I know he will help another friend in Maryann. God Bless the Seymour family.

This is for the entire Seymour family. I just can't believe all that has happened ever since 1999! I don't think anyone should have to deal with this much loss in their life ! Losing 1 kid would be bad enough, but now you are dealing with yet another loss ! I don't even know what to say! This is such a SHOCK to everyone ! I wish you all the best in getting through this terrible time !! I would NOT wish this on ANYONE, especially those i care about the most. Love, Norma (Aldrich) Winne.
