Sui Cheung Pak

Sui Pak Obituary

ALBANY Sui Cheung Pak, 84, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at his home, with his devoted wife, Hoi Siam, by his side and surrounded by his loving children, grandchildren and nephew. Born in Tientsin, China, he worked with interest in a small hometown restaurant with a relative. He also worked in Shanghai. Later in life, after leaving China for better opportunities in Hong Kong, he traveled to many different parts of the world, working on different mercantile ships. During those years, he traveled to India, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and the former Soviet Union. He lived in the Philippines for a couple of years where he also worked as a chef and was involved with a candy business. During his stay there, he was also a U.S. Army Volunteer and fought on the front lines. In an effort to continue to provide greater opportunities for the family and a better education for his children, he brought his family to the United States in 1968. He was never hesitant to take on the many challenges brought about by being an entrepreneur. In 1972, he was visiting a friend in Albany and saw the opportunity and niche for a good Chinese restaurant. He created and opened the Peking Restaurant of Madison Avenue. He was dedicated to this final life achievement for over two decades, with his wife and children all by his side. He was always willing to learn and to share his knowledge with others. His strong sense of family duty was unsurpassable. He was always warm hearted to friends and was always there to lend a helping hand. His character was both amiable, humorous and honorable. After retirement, Mr. Pak continued his love of traveling returning to China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. His energetic life was struck with Alzheimer's disease which he battled courageously for several years with the undying love and aid of his loving wife. Survivors include his loving wife, Hoi Siam; loving children, Lily and Johnny; son-in-law, Peter Kwan and his cherished grandchildren, Jacqueline and Justin; and his nephew, Yu Qiang Bai. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow the service in the family mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
