Provost, Terrence CLEVELAND, Ohio Terrence J. Provost, 64 of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2022. He was born on June 13, 1958, in Troy, the cherished son of Virgil and Mary (nee Doyle) Provost, both deceased. Terry was the beloved husband of Karen Cook; devoted father of Jackson Provost; favorite brother of Annette Marblo (Chris); uncle to five, and cousin and friend to many. Terry spent his early years in Troy and Waterford. He graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1976. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a major in physics. He went on to complete two master's degrees, one in medical physics from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the other in mathematics from Cleveland State University, and had careers spanning both fields. He worked for Picker International/Marconi Medical in MRI research and development, securing three U.S. Patents for his work in medical imaging techniques. Later, he transitioned to teaching mathematics at Cuyahoga Community College, earning TRIO recognition for his efforts to assist first-generation college students to achieve their goals. Terry was fascinated by language, the origin of words, and poetry. He was a writer and performer, maintaining a regular and powerful presence in the poetry community in Cleveland. He participated three times on the Cleveland team at the National Poetry Slam competition and hosted a monthly poetry reading at Mahall's in Lakewood. In addition to the varied experiences and accomplishments throughout his life, at the age of 11 Terry became the youngest person to swim the length of Lake George (32 miles) in New York's Adirondack Park. Terry leaves behind a legacy of intellect, curiosity, activism, kindness and love for humanity. A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 9, at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Blvd, Rocky River, Ohio. On Saturday, July 30, a second service is planned for family and friends of Terry in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel, Siena College, Loudonville. The service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, with a reception to follow shortly afterward.
