Thomas Reddy Obituary

Reddy, Thomas L. ALBANY Thomas L. Reddy passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Teresian House after a short illness. Tom was born October 24, 1929, in Albany. He was the son of the late Elizabeth Hearley Reddy and the late Thomas E. Reddy. He also was the stepson of the late William Culnan. Tom married Shirley Romanchak on June 11, 1955. Tom was a 1948 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. After high school, Tom entered the Air Force and served our country during the Korean conflict. After his stint in the Air Force, Tom began his working career as a loan officer with First Bank of Albany. In 1961, the family business came calling and Tom joined his uncle Bill as an insurance agent with Reddy Brothers Agency in Albany. Upon his uncle's passing in 1964, Tom became owner and president of the company until his retirement in 1994. With the exception of a brief stab at "retirement golf" sports was never Tom's thing. However, Tom was always drawn to committee work; whether it be Civic, religious, political, or professional. Some of his civic activities included being on the school board at St. Pius X in Loudonville, where he also served on the parish council. In the 60's and 70's he was an Albany Committeeman during the Corning Regime. Professionally, he was part of the Independent Mutual Agents Association which later became the Professional Insurance Agents Association (PIA). Tom spent 35 years on their board; leading their building committee and serving as association president in 1972. Tom's distinguished service and negotiating skill was so respected that PIA created a legislative representative position in 1973, a position he served in for 20 years. Upon Shirley's passing in 1997, Tom moved full time to their previous winter home in Naples, Fla. Tom went back to his civic roots and became president of Highpointe Condo Association. He also chaired their clubhouse building committee in 2002. He then moved nearby and became condo association president of Catalina at Highpointe Homeowners association. As you can see, Tom was always up for a lively exchange at a meeting; but even better he loved the drink and conversation that came later. Survivors include his four children, Dawn Dugan (Don) of Albany, Tom Reddy (Pattie) of Cohoes, Lynn Breton (Bruce) of Latham and Sandra Dollard (Chuck) of Voorheesville. Tom also had two grandchildren, Kevin Dugan of Albany and Eric Breton of Denver. In addition, Tom leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as dozens of friends back in Albany and Naples. Tom was predeceased by his parents; his two wives; Shirley Reddy (1997) and Jane Reddy (2007); and his sister, Marcia Walsh. Services will be held at St. Pius X Church, Crumitie Road in Loudonville on Wednesday, August 29. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. with a funeral Mass commencing at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. The family wishes to thank all the loving caring service given to their father during his stay at the Teresian House for the past 20 months. They ask that any donations be made in Tom's name to the Teresian House to support all the good that they do. Online condolences may be offered at Mooneyfuneralhome.com
