Thomas Reiter Obituary

TROY Thomas B. Reiter Sr., 81, of Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy and formerly of Cohoes, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Paul and Wilhemia Savery Reiter and beloved husband of Madeleine Lanoue Reiter of Troy and the late Catherine P. Casey Reiter. Tom was educated in the Troy schools and a lifelong area resident. He retired after 37 years of employment as a millwright with Altec Specialty Steel. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with three battle stars. Tom was past union president of the steel workers union 2478 and past president of the Capital District United Steel Workers of America. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Parish in Cohoes. Besides his devoted wife, Tom is survived by his sons, Bruce T. of NYC, Paul H. (Beverly) of Johnsonville, Robert M. (Deborah) of Stephentown, Thomas B. Jr. (Jean) of Pittstown, Vincent J. of Troy; his stepson, Ronald (Shirley) Crowley of Malta; his stepdaughter, Mary Jeanne (Robert) Honsinger of Troy; his sister, Joan McKenna of Malta; his cousin, Louis (Dorothy) Savery; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Graham. Tom's family would like to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at the manor for the extreme care and support they extended to Tom while he was with them. Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd., 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes Monday morning 8:30. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Joseph's Church 9 o'clock. Interment will full military honors will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday 4-8 p.m. Those wishing to remember Tom may make contributions in his memory to the Van Rensselaer Manor, Residence Council, 85 Bloomingrove Dr., Troy, NY 12180.
