Vincenzina Commisso Obituary

Commisso, Vincenzina "Sina"
ALBANY - Vincenzina "Sina" Commisso, 87, of Albany passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, on what would have been her 60th wedding anniversary.
Born in the coastal town of Siderno Marina, Calabria, Italy, on February 1, 1938, to the late Vincenzo and Theresa Commisso, she was the loving wife of Cosimo Commisso, whom she married on August 28, 1965. Later that year, she immigrated to the United States to join her husband in Albany, N.Y. Sina and Cosimo built a home filled with love, laughter, and the delicious scents of her traditional Calabrian cooking. In 1967, they welcomed their first son, Frank, followed two years later by Vincent, and later their daughter, Maria.
Their home was an entertaining hub for friends and family, some of which stopped by after evenings at the family's Western Avenue restaurant, Cosimo's. Preparing Thanksgiving feasts in the basement kitchen, cultivating her large garden, making homemade sauce – these were among the things Sina loved. Being surrounded by family and friends gave her the greatest comfort. She was known for her homemade bread, eggplant melanzane, an endless supply of cookies and espresso, and the lobster marinara that her grandsons loved.
Being a homemaker, Sina spent most of her years as a caretaker for her beloved Maria, along with the young children many families entrusted to her care, ensuring they always had a safe place to stay and full bowls of pastina and chicken cutlets.
Sina was predeceased by her husband, Cosimo; and daughter, Maria. She is survived by her sons, Frank Commisso (Delores Womack) and Vincent Commisso (Courtney); her grandsons, Frankie, Nicolas and Michael; her sister, Ida Commisso, her brother, Giuseppe Commisso (Franca); her sisters-in-law, Angelina Commisso and Angie Camarata (Christopher); and her brother-in-law, Antonio Commisso. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Femia, Maria Belcastro and Mela Commisso; her sister-in-law, Rosina DeLeo; and her brothers-in-law, Giuseppe Commisso and Cosimo DeLeo. Sina is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Belvedere, Unlimited Home Care, and the many aides, whose compassionate care allowed Sina to remain at home surrounded by those she loved.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., with interment in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1003 New Loudon Rd., Suite 201, Cohoes, N.Y. 12047, or to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Md. 21741.
