Virginia Peters Obituary

Peters, Virginia
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Virginia "Ginny" Peters was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend. She passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 73, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by friends and family after a four-day battle with cancer.
Ginny was a graduate of Walden High School and was a graduate of Stony Brook University. She had a 26-year career with the N.Y.S.D.O.H. and consulted for 15 years with JMJ Healthcare Compliance.
Ginny was raised by Mildred and Beau Boharis. They lived in numerous locations, including Norway for seven years, which left a lasting impact on her. She spent most of her life in Montgomery, Orange County and Pine Plains, N.Y. Her love for the Saratoga area was deepened by experiences with friends and family. Attending the Saratoga Jazz Festival, the track, and every possible important event in the lives of her close friends and family.
Ginny is survived by her mother, Millie Boharis; her sister, Barbara Duffy (Bill); her daughter, Shannon Peters Pallen; and her grandson, Griffin Pallen. She is also survived by her chosen family, Zachary Quartararo (Veronica), Noah Quarararo, Peter Quartararo, Kathleen Quartararo, and Jim Hahn. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as by her beloved dog, Luke "Cool Man."
Ginny was a conduit, bridging numerous family members and friends. She loved to celebrate non-birthdays, weddings, graduations, promotions, and big life events. She was an unwavering support during challenging times in the lives of friends and family. She was beyond caring to those important to her. She kept others in mind and loved to connect over food. She loved to try new foods and new restaurants with friends and family. She was an intent listener and offered advice that was full of wisdom.
Ginny lived on Oakridge Farm in Oakridge, Montgomery County in the late '70s to '80s with David Peters. She raised chickens, ducks, and sheep. She knew how to birth a lamb. She ran an egg business she maintained in addition to her wool business. She owned a Canadian Champion sheepdog named Red. Red protected her fiercely; they were cut from the same cloth.
Her life experiences were vast and adventurous, even historians would have a hard time chronicling them. She attended Woodstock, had a pilot's license to fly hot air balloons, was a bodybuilder, ran a farm and did so much throughout her life that she was constantly surprising those around her with a new story that she hadn't told in years.
Relatives and friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Ginny, it was a great pleasure working with you on the NY Medicaid contract. You started out plenty tough and after a few years we became friends. I learned so much from you; I appreciated your friendship.

Dear Ginny, you were a close friend at work for nearly 10 years and then many more as good friends with both Noreen and I after you retired. We are so sad upon learning of your passing tonight. We would have made the trip to Albany to say goodbye if only we knew. You were the customer project manager I ever worked with - pales in comparison to your friendship. RIP my friend. My sympathy to Nickie and Griffin. I know how difficult it is to lose someone as close as a mother. I did not know Ginny well but when we met I saw her as nice, energetic and now, seemingly gone too soon. I pray the Lord speaks peace to your hearts.

Ginny was one of the first DOH people I met at "800" when our company had the State Medicaid contract. She was a great source of information . After she retired, I would see her at conferences - so warm and friendly. such a loss . Hugs to her family

Ginny, our car rides together with Luke to see my mom Patty were filled with deep conversations, sharing fun times and secrets, laughter, you letting me drive the BMW, good quality time. My sister Michele loved our luncheon we had together!
Your wisdom and views on life will always stay with me. Hanging out with you at the hospital only two days before your trip to see The Lord is one of the most special times I will always cherish. Miss you already!

I'm going to miss Ginny everyday. She is the only person I have ever met that believed in a persons ability to succeed with 150% conviction. If I said "Ginny, I can't" she would reply "you CAN" every time and explain why fiercely. She taught me how to 'cook' and how to properly fold a towel! No one gave better or more sound advice. Her passing has left a hole in my heart.

Ginny will be missed. She was the light that lit the room and one of the most thoughtful and generous of those I had the pleasure to work with and remain friends with after retirement. I will hold tight to those memories. Rest in Peace my friend.

I feel so blessed to have known the fullness of Ginny’s friendship. Her approach to life can be described as “loving authenticity” and there were many times it made me laugh and cry. Her legacy will live on through each of the lives she touched and the important lessons she taught in her life and in her death. Sending a lot of love into the universe as I grieve our loss and reflect on the lessons she taught me.

Sorry to hear this news. Ginny was a huge part of my state career (she was the one who hired me). I had the pleasure of working with her from 1986 until she retired. She always supported her co-workers aka our "work family". She was extremely generous and classy person. May she rest in peace.

My condolences to Ginny’s entire family and her many friends. Over 40 years ago Ginny joined the NYSDSS EDP family. So many memories. She made sure we celebrated every occasion, and she was the first one to sign up for the many fundraisers our children had. She must have had quite a collection of wrapping paper. I spent fun times at the farm with her. When Ginny said we were making Swedish meatballs, we made swedish meatballs for the Scottish games. Ginny loved to entertain and we all enjoyed her Saratoga summer parties. After many years of not seeing Ginny, we have been meeting for dinner like no time has passed. I will miss all those words of wisdom and of course, her great big hugs! RIP my friend.

Ginny became a new friend only 7 years ago when my husband (who was a former colleague of hers) introduced us during a weekend getaway in Saratoga Springs. We immediately connected and became fast friends. My job brings me to Saratoga often and the best part of my visit has always been meeting Ginny for cocktails and dinner. I cherished our long conversations about our mutual concerns of society, the planet, and navigating through life’s ups and downs. I valued her insightful advice and loved hearing all the amazing stories of her life. The published tribute truly captured her essence. I am so saddened by her sudden passing and will greatly miss her. Rest in Peace GinnyYou were a treasure

So sorry for the loss of the wonderful, thoughtful and caring person that was ‘Ginny’. I was privileged to have worked with Ginny for 20 years and we shared many laughs and good times together. The kind words written describe Ginny perfectly. I will truly miss our occasional lunches and conversations. May Ginny Rest In Peace and may God Bless her family in this time of sorrow.
