William Delaney Obituary

Delaney, Dr. William
GRAFTON - Dr. William T. Delaney, 82, longtime area anesthesiologist, died peacefully, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center on May 2, 2025, after an extended illness. Born in Albany on October 30, 1942, son of the late Thomas and Olive Bush Delaney, he was a 1960 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Bill continued his education at Union College, Creighton University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, NYC. He was a partner in the Anesthesia Group of Albany, where he practiced for over 30 years.
Bill joined the US Navy in 1972, and honorably served his country as a medical doctor for the US Navy, until his discharge in 1974. At the time of his discharge, Bill was a Lieutenant Commander.
Throughout his life Bill enjoyed being outdoors. He was an active runner, walker, hiker, and also enjoyed bike riding. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible at Saratoga Race Course each summer. He was an avid reader and enthusiastic follower of Creighton Basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Barbara Ricci Delaney, who he married on October 29, 2009; as well as his children, Daniel J. (Andrea) Delaney, Talaya A. (Niall Stephens) Delaney; Barbara's daughter, Renee (Brian) Wallingford; grandchildren, Felix, Victor, Cathal, Oisin, and Eve; and his siblings, Barbara (Russell Dunn) Delaney, Richard Delaney, and Thomas (Kathleen) Delaney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be at the All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N. Main St., Mechanicville, from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. on Friday, May 9. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N. Main Street, Mechanicville, N.Y., with military honors and burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204. Please visit www.devito-salvadorefh.com to leave condolences, or share memories and photos you may have of Bill, with his family.
