William R. Eckhof

Eckhof, William R. ALEXANDRIA, Va. William R. Eckhof, age 82, died suddenly on February 18, 2008, surrounded by family. Born in Utica in 1926, he resided in Alexandria and previously in Albany, N.Y. He was a former Albany Times Union newspaperman and later press secretary for Gov. Nelson Rockefeller. Bill moved to Washington in 1975 to become speech writer for then-HEW Secretary Caspar Weinberger. Most recently, he was a senior official with the HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement. Survivors include his wife, Catharine (Sexton), also of Utica; three daughters, Cassandra, Pamela, and Leslie; and three granddaughters. Burial will be in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery, Otsego County.
