William Hammond Obituary
TROY - William O. Hammond Sr., 86, died Monday, August 18, 2025, at his residence, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Henry J. Hammond Sr. and Alice Hettie Landfear Hammond; and husband for 50 years of Ruth Yager Hammond. He was raised in Poestenkill and resided in Troy most of his life. He attended Averill Park High School.
Bill was a bus driver for CDTA for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
He loved playing golf, and was a veteran of the Army National Guard from 1957-1960.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his children, William O. (Kitty) Hammond Jr., San Anselmo, Calif., Leslie Hammond Heath, Wynantskill, Robert (Brooke) Ducharme, West Sand Lake, John Ducharme, Troy and David (Melissa) Ducharme, Troy; his grandchildren, Theo, Sophie and Alivia, Amber Heath, Amanda, Christian, Carolyn, Anthony, Mason and Owen Ducharme and Finn and Beck Weldon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry "Hank" J. Hammond Jr.; and a sister, Susan A. Santerre.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, with a service to follow at noon.
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of William O. Hammond Sr. to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, N.Y. 12204. We recommend using the brycefuneralhome.com website to share or send condolences, light a candle, view videos or for service directions.

Ruth and family

Mr Hammond was a very caring man in the 80´s - I was a single mom who worked specific hours and he made sure my child got safely to school and back when I put her on the CDTA bus - He was always cheerful - May he REST IN PEACE
