William Jones Obituary

Jones, William J. ALTAMONT William J. Jones, 64, passed away at his home in Altamont on October 24, 2021. Bill was born in Troy, grew up in Menands and lived in the Capital Region his entire life. He retired from G.E. Research and Development after working 36 years as a scientific glass blower. He also operated his own company Corporate Glass Blowing. He was a hard worker and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Bill brought a smile to everyone's face through his sense of humor and his outgoing personality. He was the son of the late William Sr. and Joan (Abriel) Jones. Bill was the proud, devoted father of Matthew Jones; and is survived by his sister, Debra Schardt (Paul) of Florida; ex-wife and forever friend Diane Jones of Guilderland, and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy Jones. He donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program of the Albany Medical College. There will be no calling hours, but a celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Our sincere condolences. We worked at the R&D Center with Bill 20+ years ago. He was respected by scientists and coworkers alike. He had pics of Matthew at his work station back then in the glass blowers area of the Glass Shop on the second floor. He was excited to be a good dad and proud of you even as a toddler. We remember him talking about hunting and fishing with his dad and boating with his in-laws and wife. May fond memories comfort you.

Oh Bill, where am I going to get those great hugs from? You were going to show me the world. You were there when I faced the toughest times of my life and always knew what to say to cheer me up. Oh Big brother....words cannot describe the ache in my heart right now. You left me way too soon. Thank you for looking over me and loving me unconditionally. You were my rock after mom, dad & Peggy passed. I will always have the fondest memories of our time here, especially the time he spent together as a family watching the kids grow up. The kids are already missing you terribly and Ashleigh promises to get that buck she's chasing- just for you! Hug the family for me and please watch over us. I love you to the moon and back.
