Macey, William "Bill"
TROY - William "Bill" Macey, 62, passed away on October 5, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Troy in 1960 to Edward and Mary Macey (Jensen) and graduated from Lansingburgh High School and Hudson Valley Community College. Bill worked as a purchasing agent for area nursing facilities, and eventually as a procurement manager for N.Y.S. O.G.S., retiring upon his cancer diagnosis in October of 2021.
In these last two years, Bill had the chance to reflect on how he would like to be remembered. These are his words:
In 1985, Bill met the love of his life, Marianne (Balogh). They married in 1991 and built a beautiful life together and raised two amazing children. Bill was able to experience many of his dreams including being a local bodybuilder in the '80s; guitarist and lead singer of the country rock band Yukon in the '90s; and enjoying many vacations, including several trips to Hungary, Jamaica, and a cruise to Alaska. Bill hosted many gatherings at "The Camp" over the years. Most of all, his greatest accomplishment and source of pride was his family - with a force of love that will never fade.
In addition to Marianne, he leaves behind his children, Joshua (Megan) Macey, and Erika (Joe) Venditti; his beautiful granddaughter, Savannah Venditti; his mom, Mary Macey, and her companion Mike Frank; and his siblings, Betty Mae Gillett, Edward (Jeuillie) Macey, and Susan (Gary) Ruth. Bill also leaves behind a large extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and dogs. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Macey. He will miss them all dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Monday from 1-4 p.m. at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Inc., 165 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer.
Although he was not a smoker, Bill died from ALK-positive lung cancer. His life was extended due to the dedication and hard work of Dr. Evangelist and her team at NYOH. He asked that donations be made to ALKPositive.org to further their research on treatments and an eventual cure. He also requests that everyone reading this take a few minutes to appreciate the loved ones in their lives; imagine life without them, and show them your love! Life really is short.
