McCagg, William
GHENT - William (Muggs) Eric McCagg, 76, of Ghent, N.Y., passed away peacefully, at Albany Medical Center, on May 21, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Ghent and it is where he and his wife of nearly 47 years, Sheila, raised their two sons, Scott (Erica) and Steven (Dara). It is also where he joyfully got to watch his three grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, and Morgan, grow up.
William was predeceased by his four siblings; as well as his parents, Willard and Bernice McCagg.
William served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of a National Defence Service medal, a Good Conduct medal, a Vietnam Campaign medal, and a Vietnam Service medal.
An avid mechanic all of his life, William also worked at numerous area businesses, including Columbia Tractor, Kinderhook Farm Supply, Capital Tractor, Keils Equipment, Rifenburg Construction; and he retired in 2012 from Anderson Equipment Company. William also spent a majority of his nights and weekends mowing/brush hogging and fixing tractors and other heavy/construction equipment, as co-owner of McCagg Mowing & Repair Inc., in Ghent, N.Y.
When he was not working, William enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, whether it be at "the cabin," in Forestport, N.Y., camping in his motorhome, vacationing in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., or just sitting in "the barn" enjoying an ice-cold Budweiser and a lucky strike.
