William Moore Obituary

Moore, William Jay
EAST SCHODACK - William Jay Moore, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born on March 31, 1948, in Burlington, Vt., Bill was a proud graduate of Columbia High School and attended Baldwin Wallace University.
He was a Sergeant in the United States Army, completing a year-long tour in Vietnam in 1969, where he fought bravely during the Tet Offensive, and was awarded a Purple Heart, after being wounded in battle. His military honors include the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with the 1960 Device, two Overseas Bars, and various qualifications as a gunner and marksman (M-60, M-14, M-16). Following his honorable discharge Bill worked for the Sears Service Center, as well as Orange Ford in Albany. A devoted member of the community, Bill served as former Commander of the Nassau VFW Post and was the Town Assessor of Nassau.
Bill's passions extended far beyond his service. He was an avid reader and a talented trumpet player, known for his wit and storytelling. A gifted writer, he cherished his time working on model cars and was always the go-to person for mechanical needs. His love for the outdoors was evident in his camping trips, particularly in national parks, and he took pride in having traveled to all fifty states. Above all, Bill was a devoted "Papa" to his three grandsons, Caden, Austin, and William, and was deeply admired and loved by his family.
Bill is survived by his loving partner, Anita "Nita" Styczynski; his son Aaron Michael Moore (Valiene); his siblings, Stephen J. Moore (Susan), Rebecca J. Barnard (Timothy), and Barbara J. Moore (Bjorn); as well as his cherished grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dr. Stanley J. Moore and Margaret B. Moore.
A memorial service will be held at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, on November 7, 2024, with calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a service at 4 p.m. A reception will follow at Chandler Young, VFW Post 8162, 7 Lyons Lake Road, Nassau, N.Y. 12123. Bill will be laid to rest at Saratoga National Cemetery on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in Bill's honor. His bravery, humor, and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Condolences may be offered at www.wjlyonsfuneralhome.com

I got to be friends with Bill, when he was going with my best friend (Linda Krebs)
in high school. She asked me to keep an eye on him while she was on summer vacation with her parents. We rode around in Stan's black V-W bug... the rest is history. I married Bill shortly after his tour of Nam and discharge from the army. We were married a year, but ended up traveling different paths, we divorced a year later. However, he was all that was mentioned in in his obituary. He was a sweet, funny guy who loved to drive.

I´ll never forget the midnight runs to Pirate Island on lower Saranac Lake and the marathon backalley bridge games in Bills´ apt on State St in Albany.

I went to the East Greenbush Methodist Church. When I was 11 Bill and his wife were our sunday school teachers. He was the coolest guy. Up until then we always had older church people. Him and his wife taught us things as well as took us on outings. Years late I ran into him when I worked at Stewards and he was a mechanic. We talked for awhile. The Vietnam war was an awful thing at the time of which I was too young to understand. But he was willing to spend his time with us kids and was nothing but positive influence. I know he will be met in heaven by his family and friends and will be watching over everybody.
