Dear Mrs. Young and family,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I had the pleasure of being a 5th grader in Mr. Young's class in "old Jefferson's basement classroom" (now the Rotterdam Police Station). He was a wonderful teacher. I had a tough experience with another student that was also in our class that year and Mr. Young knew that my interactions were difficult, at best. Although I was not happy at the time, Mr. Young had me tutor the young man which taught me a lot about forgiveness and how difficult teaching is! At one point during the year the class was doing spelling and although I don't remember why, Mr. Young taught us all to spell the longest word in the English language pneumoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. Interestingly, I can still spell it so Mr. Young made quite an impression. My condolences to the family.

This is so heartbreaking - my favorite cousin. My Mom and his mom were so close and we all grew up together.
Even as adults we managed to stay in touch.
May the family know peace and my cousin rest in peace.

Barb and family, I was so saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I worked for him for 5 years at GE and I have so many warm memories of the time I spent with him...traveling with him and living through difficult times that impacted people in tough ways. My former colleagues have said it already. In 22 years at GE he is the one leader I had whom I respected the most. He had character and integrity and class and that came through to our team members very clearly. I remember so many examples of this, but I'll relate one here. When we went to Parkersburg, WV to inform the employees there that we were closing the site, the site leader met us in the elevator in the wee hours of the morning and made a comment to Bill that he "was thinking of him" as he knew it was tough on Bill to have to make that decision. This from a man who was losing his job. As Tommy Thompson said, Bill insulated our team from the turbulence above and most of our employees understood that and appreciated it. He was just an excellent person to be around, and he spoke so often of you, Barb, and of your kids and his grandkids. He wasn't perfect - but he sure was special. Please know many of us out here are thinking of you and your family. My best to you - Glen Hobbes, North East, MD

I was fortunate to be at GE in the UK when Bill was running GE Corporate Computer Services. He was a true leader. Whenever he would visit our datacentre in the UK he would always spend time with us and would ask about our family's. He made us feel important. This is the mark of a great leader. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his family.

Dear Mrs. Young and family - I was so saddened to read of Mr. Young's passing. He was my 6th grade teacher at the "old" Jefferson school, class of June, 1968, his last year of teaching. He was such a wonderful teacher and person. I remember having so much fun in his classes - he had a passion for teaching and it was recognized by his students. I didn't realize he had worked at GE in Schenectady after his teaching career. I have been employed there since 1977, and only wish I could have had the opportunity to see him again after all the years had passed from Jefferson and thank him for all he did to make me the person I am today. Sincerely, Laurie (Czaban) Schraver

I had the pleasure of working for Bill Young for a number of years; both direct and dotted-line. He was a classy, witty and no-nonsense manager and person. You always knew where you stood with Bill and he was a manager always encouraging interaction and openness. Bill possessed the highest degree of ethics. Both Mary and I are so saddened by Barbara's loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Young family.

Bill's smiling face during the turmoil and stress of the GE take-over of RCA was very comforting to me and others coming from RCA. His help in our transfer to Schenectady was much appreciated. Mary and I are very sorry for your loss.

Bill was one of the nicest people I knew - such a caring gentleman. He was also my manager in his last position at GE. He was definitely the best boss I ever had. He was such a good leader. Despite the fact he had a difficult boss himself at the time, he was able to manage him effectively, so that those working for Bill were protected from some undeserved "flak" from above from time-to-time! Such a sad loss - my heart goes out to Barbara and the rest of the family at this time.

Bill had given much to his first group of application development team at GE Capital. With his great leadership, we became a very close-knit family. I still remember vividly the dinner party we had when the "family" had its last day together as Bill was promoted to another position - we cried we laughed and we danced until we couldn't any more. Bill's gift will be forever treasured and I will always remember his gentle heart.

Barbara and Family, I had the honor of knowing Bill and then working for him for several years. He was truly a gentleman and compassionate person. His leadership at GE resulted in many success stories and his legacy is long remembered. He offered personal advice which I still try to follow today. He will be missed. God bless.

Bill was alway much more than our "Manager" - he was a true "Leader" in every sense of the word. He always made himself available to the entire staff, soliciting our opinions and interested in our solutions. He even joined us on occasion in the break room during lunch discussing local topics and interests. The world has lost a truly compassionate figure, someone we all aspired to. Our heart goes out to Bill's family at this saddest of times.

Bill was truly a person to admire. He possessed the skills and abilities that anyone among us would choose to have. I miss him today but not with the same deepness that his family must feel today.
