Yani "John" Papas

Papas, Yani "John" HUSDON, Fla. Yani "John" Papas,79, passed away on April 15, 2012 in Hudson, Fla. Yani was born in Longo, Albania, moved to Constantinople, Turkey at the age of seven and later met and married his wife, Evangelia Alexandra Papas in Brussels, Belgium. He along with his wife and family immigrated to Albany, N.Y. in 1967 where they resided in Castleton, N.Y. for 39 years. Yani and his brother, Milton Papas were partners and owners of Papas Foreign Car Service and Mykonos Restaurant. Yani operated Papas Souvlaki Truck at Capital Park in Albany. Yani enjoyed fishing, card games with his friends and took a lot of pride in his garden. Yani was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Survivors include his wife, Alexandra Fotiu Papas; his children, Athina (Sam) Sgambati, Basile (Coleen) Papas, George (Amanda Hammell) Papas; grandchildren, Alexandra and Mathew Sgambati, Nicholas, Noah, Arianna and Zoe Papas; brother, Milton Papas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service, Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Relative and friends may also call at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. Trisigian memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
