Alpheus Parsons Obituary

PARSONS Alpheus “Al” Byers Parsons of Valdosta, GA., died April 10, 2006 in Madison. He was born July 6, 1932 in Seattle, WA. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he had his nineteenth birthday on Heartbreak Ridge. He was a speech writer for President Ford and authored a history of Florida Power, Lightning in the Sun . In 1985 he won the American Academy of Poetry Prize. As a journalist he worked for various newspapers and TV organizations, including The Oregon Journal, Portland, The Tampa Tribune, The Clearwater Sun, The Madison Enterprise Recorder, The Valdosta Daily Times, Washington Post Newsweek, WJXT- TV, Jacksonville. He edited and published The Lake Park Post, Valdosta. He won Associated Press awards for feature and editorial writing and investigative reporting. Mrs. Parsons is survived by twin sons Alpheus Parsons, Webster and Byers Parson and wife Angie, and grandson Aaron, Denver, brother Tunis Parsons, Tunis Parsons, Tucson, sister, Meme Perkins, Birmingham. Al Parson's was a true American Patriot, as well as a close, dear friend, that I shall miss forever. He was a champion of the average citizen. He spent his entire life speaking out against official corruption. If for no other reason, for this alone, he should have the eternal respect and gratitude of all Americans.
