Alva Stone Obituary

STONE Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Alva Heintz Stone, 84, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Alva was born and lived in Jacksonville most of her life and was a descendant of Massachusetts colonists and settlers of territorial Florida. Mrs. Stone graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Georgetown Visitation and Dunbarton College in Washington, D.C. She was a member of The Junior League of Jacksonville, The Garden Club and The Society of Colonial Dames. Alva was married to John P. Stone in 1948 and together they co-founded Carpet Concepts in 1966. Upon her retirement, Alva and John enjoyed spending the summer and fall months at their home in Franklin, N.C. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Riverside. Survivors include her husband, John, of 63 years; her sons, John P. Stone, Jr., William T. Stone (Janan), Frank H. Stone (Eva), Christopher P. Stone (Nita), Mark A. Stone (Carlisle), and daughter, Alva T. Stone of Tallahassee. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday tonight, August 23, 2011 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm, at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 2609 Park Street at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. A private family interment will follow. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to our mother's caregiver, Marie Harris. She provided the loving care and attention that allowed our parents to be together in their home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church or Northeast Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
