Camilla Augusta Hanchey Hurst

HURST Camilla Augusta Hanchey Hurst, 95, went home to be with the Lord January 31, 2006 while visiting her twin in celebration of their birthday in her native Birmingham, Alabama. She was born in the Crumley Chapel community, January 15, 1911, the youngest child of Carrie Pauline Crowder Hanchey of China Grove, AL. and John Wesley Hanchey of Pine Level, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband Truett Spencer Hurst; daughter Sandra Jan Hurst; grandson Rodman William Gaines III; sisters Willie Lewis Hall, Valeria McCoy Berry, Francis Pauline Bentzel; and brothers, Charles Wesley Hanchey, John Wesley Hanchey, Stanford Leland Hanchey, and son-in-law Rodman Williams Gaines. She attended Birmingham Southern and Florence State Teacher's College, and taught in Brewton, Alabama and the local Colley Mining School near Birmingham. She was in Real Estate in Florence, Alabama and Miami, moving to Jacksonville in 1954 where she established her own brokerage, Atlantic Drive-In Reality. She was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Joan Hurst Gaines, Ocala; Sarah Hurst Miller, Jacksonville; and Stephen Holmes Hurst (Gayle), Las Vegas; grandchildren, Lynn Hurst Gaines, Loree Alyson Miller, Melissa Erin Miller, Matthew Brian Miller, Spencer Wayne Hurst, Michael Ryan Hurst; twin sister, Mary Camelia Hanchey Crisler; brother-in-law, Charles Goddard Hurst (Audrey); sister-in-law, Rebekah Loveless Corley (Clifton) and numerous relatives and friends.
