Cecil Overton "Gator" Pickett

Cecil Pickett Obituary

PICKETT The deer in Nassau County can rest easier tonight. Cecil Overton “Gator” Pickett, 79, of Pickettville in Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2005. He was born June 6, 1926 in Jacksonville. Gator had several passions: living life to the fullest, hunting for the “big one”, fishing for the “one that got away”, and the love of animals. He never met a stranger, touched the lives of so many, and his door was always open. He leaves behind family and friends. We will all miss him dearly. Survivors include his daughter, Maggie; three step-daughters, Julia, Susan, and Linda; two step-sons, Robert and Roger; many grandchildren, Brittney, Christian, Chasity, Michael, Tina Justin, Casey, and Jessica, great-grandchildren, Tiffney, Taylor, Tiara, Clayton, Alexis, Tucker, Brianna, and Zackery; his loving sister, Natalie Pittman; nephew, John Pittman and niece, Lynn Stanley. Daddy, you will be missed - Drag. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, December 2, 2005 in the Chapel of COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Avenue, with Rev. Al Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday ( TODAY) at the funeral home. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

I have a very special place in my heart for Gator. He was a very special and caring person that I will always remember. He took me fishing many times with my Dad (Sam) and never seemed to mind each time stopping to take the fish off my hook. He was among one of my Dad's closest friends and I hope they are somehow together talking about that BIG FISH that got away. My sympathy goes out to all of Gator's family as I am sure he will be missed by all. He touched so many lives..---- Joyce (Sissie) Phelps-Cooper

Nana, Maggie, Johnny and Margaret,

To say this family is being tested is putting it mildly. Guess the Good Lord thought Jason needed someone to keep him in line. I can just see my Jason's big smile whenever he can greet a friend. May peace be with you, Maggie, you will always have a place in my heart that can not be replaced and your presence with our family when we needed you was something I treasure. Nana, cry softly, Gator is at peace. Johnny & Margaret be the strength for my little ones. Chris, Brittney and Christian are there with you and please always give them and little extra strong hug from me. I love you all so much.
