Charles Sikking Obituary

SIKKING On June 30th, 2007, Charles Thomas Sikking, with his wife Betty at his side, made his transition from this earth to his next plane of life. Tom was born in Los Angeles, California and lived an extremely colorful and joyous life, from joining the Navy right out of high school during WWII, afterward serving in the LA Police Department and then working in Labor Law Enforcement; he was a professor at two colleges before becoming a Unity Minister. Reverend Sikking was Prison Chaplin at the Kansas State Penitentiary and the author of an outstanding book titled “Creative Responsibility”. The highlight of his life was his wife Betty and their ministry. They served four Unity Churches during their 37 years together. He was active at the International level of Unity serving on their Board of Directors and the Licensing and Ordination Committee. During this time Tom supported the development of many new ministries. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son. He is survived by his wife Betty, his children David (Marilyn), Tom (Pat) and Sue (Jaime), grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends and colleagues. Memorial services will be held by the family in California and in the Jacksonville area. In lieu of flowers you may donate, in the name of C. Thomas Sikking, to NE Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to Spiritual Enrichment Center, c/o Treasurer Michele Harrell, 1334 Mapleton Road, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Tom affected thousands of people over a long and well-lived life. When he spoke the unvarnished truth, he was powerful. This trait is what I will always remember. Of his many sermons, the "kick the can" lesson was a personification of his spirit made flesh. The fable of the acorn also showed his ability to teach in parables as his brother Jesus did. I will miss him for what he brought to Unity, I will always carry him with me because he got into my head. He gave what he had and deserved much more than he received. A measure of a man is not who he knows but who knows him.
Thank you Tom, I'm glad I knew you.

Dear Betty and family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers, as is Tom, at his time of transition. What strength, love, and care you have both given to so many. It is an honor to be able to return your love and share the strength which you have enhanced so much in us. Tom will live on with the memories he left in our hearts and with the words he spoke and wrote. They are cherished as are YOU!
Blessings, Geynell and Jack
