Daphne Carl Obituary

CARL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Daphne Reynolds Carl on 01/26/2011 at the age of 92. After fighting valiantly through recent illnesses she decided she needed to rest. Mrs. Carl was born in Atlanta, Ga. on September 27, 1918 to Herbert and Mary Reynolds. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and attended Florida State University. Our mother relished her childhood often relating interesting events to our great enjoyment; her zest for life never left her. Mrs. Carl held jobs briefly in the now defunct Woolworth's Department Store located in downtown Jacksonville, and the long ago closed Camp Blanding. She met and later married Robert A. Carl from Pottsville, Pa. with whom she shared an adventurous and interesting life. Robert A. Carl, a retired Naval Captain, former Special Assistant to the Undersecretary of Navy, owner of New York based Able Marine Ship Maintenance Corporation and author, was able to attain these positions due in no small part to the unending and enduring support of his loving wife, Daphne Carl. Daphne and her husband were able to travel quite a bit, moving to different locations and finally settling in Allentown, Pa. where she had lived for over 20 years before moving back to Jacksonville in 2009. Mrs. Carl never met a stranger and had met and made many, many friends throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved sister, Olga McCrary, and the love of her life, her husband Robert. Mrs. Carl is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Suzanne Nilsson (Roger) and Mrs. Elaine Charles (Charles), 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 2 nieces. We would also like to thank her caretakers that were like extended family. To Shirley, Debbie, Carolyn and Jennifer: thank you for all your love and support and for helping to ease the pain for our family. Thanks also to McGraw Community Hospice for all their care and support. The burial will take place in Auburn, Pa. where she will rest beside her husband. A celebration of her life for friends and family will be announced at a later date.

"Her zest for life never left her"

This: the gift she bestowed on everyone she met.

Our deepest sympathies - I will never forget the sunlight she shone, and all I learned from her about how we are supposed to live.

Dear Sue and Elaine,

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of your mother,Daphne.

It was always such a pleasure to do work for her at the house and especially enjoyable when I had the opportunity to sit and chat with your mother. She was a beautiful and very gracious lady with so many wonderful stories to share and always so grateful when I did anything for her.
She will hold a special place in my heart forever.

May you and your families find peace and comfort during these difficult times.

Please keep in touch and notify me if there are going to be any services. You can reach me on my facebook page, or at 610-694-9113.

Dear Sue and Elaine,

Our deepest sympathy with love comes to each of you and your families.

Your parents and mine had many happy times together. Germaine, our daughter-in-law, and I had a fun visit with Aunt Daphne in Allentown in June of 2007. I will remember fondly that visit. And, Kent still remembers and appreciates the pretzels Aunt Daphne sent back with us for him!

Thank you, Aunt Daphne, for these and many other memories.

Sue and Elaine, may you and your families find comfort in your own memories of your Mother.

Love,
Kent & Nancy
