Douglas Yohe Obituary
YOHE Douglas Herbert Yohe, 72, died Monday evening, January 26, at his home in Jacksonville after a yearlong battle with cancer. The son of Douglas Hughes Yohe and Mae Miller Yohe, he graduated from Bloomsburg High School (Pennsylvania), Montgomery Junior College (Maryland), and Denison University (Ohio). He served two years in the U. S. Army, during which time he met his future wife Martha Gale Hall (Martie) in Yokohama, Japan. After his service years, he served as Milk Sales Manager for Clewell's Berwick Creamery and later as Sales Manager for Bercon, both in Berwick, Pennsylvania. A true entrepreneur, in 1973 he started his own company, Dyco, a manufacturer of automated bottle-handling equipment, which began in Berwick and is now located in Bloomsburg. For a time his company also recycled plastic film and had it extruded into heavy-duty garbage bags that were a popular fund-raising product for local organizations. After experiencing some health problems, Mr. Yohe retired in 1993 t o Florida, first in Titusville and then in Jacksonville, where he resided until his death. He was active for many years in the Berwick Community, serving in various offices in the Berwick Rotary Club for over thirty years, teaching a high-school Sunday School class for over eighteen years at First Methodist Church, serving on the board of the Berwick YMCA for ten years and being active in the local Boy Scout organization and the Berwick United Way campaigns. In his early days in Berwick, he acted in a number of plays produced by the Berwick Theater Workshop. In Jacksonville, he was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society for several years. In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his four children, Kay Linneman (Chris) of New Canaan, CT, Fran Herzog (Alan) of Greenwich, CT, Peter :Yohe (Terena) of Bloomsburg, PA, and Sarah Hathaway (Nick) of Darien, CT, as well as ten grandchildren. Also surviving are his stepmother Editha Griffith of Belcamp, MD, his brother Rick Yohe (Margaret) of Aberdeen, MD, and their daughter Amanda. Several former exchange students, from Germany, India, and Japan, are also regarded as members of the Yohe family. A memorial service will be held at Wesley United Methodist CHurch, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, with visitation to follow in the church social hall. Mo services will be held in Jacksonville, although friends are encouraged to call at the family home at their convenience.
