Elizabeth Joyce Gilpin

GILPIN Elizabeth (Betty) Joyce Gilpin, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday February 10, 2010. Born on December 10, 1939 in Memphis, TN to Lawrence and Joyce Grant. Betty attended Treadwell High School and Memphis State University. She married Ed Gilpin on August 7, 1959. She and her husband, Ed, started and owned Saturdays Family Hair Care Centers, which they owned and operated until they retired in 2001. She was voted Small Business Person of the Year by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce in 1980, was a member of the International Chain Salon Association, was on the Board of Directors for Jacksonville Easter Seals, was a member of the Ponte Vedra Womens Club, and Palms Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Ed; two sons, Scott Gilpin of Neptune Beach (Christy), granddaughter Sarah; Todd Gilpin of St. Augustine; brother Larry Grant of Kokomo, IN (Phyllis); sister Judy Fischer of Memphis, TN (Larry ); mother Joyce Grant of Memphis, TN; 4 nephews and 1 niece. She is predeceased in death by her father Lawrence Grant. Betty's passion was her love and devotion to her husband Ed, sons Scott and Todd, her granddaughter Sarah, daughter in law Christy, brother Larry, sister Judy, and her mother Joyce. She was also devoted to her many friends. She enjoyed traveling, decorating, teaching her granddaughter how to cook, sew, make jewelry, paint pottery, and how important it is to help all people and to be a good friend. She led a life of love, hope, courage, happiness, loyalty, and strength. She will remain in the hearts and minds of many. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday February 17, 2010 at Palms Presbyterian Church, 3410 South 3rd Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
