Erik Smart Obituary
Mr. Erik Deandre Smart (35) and Master Derrick Jaylen Smart (7) passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018. The memories of Erik and Derrick will be cherished by many. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:00am, Saturday, October 20 at The Potter's House International Ministries, 5119 Normandy Blvd, Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin. The late Mr. Erik Smart and Master Derrick Smart will rest for visitation of loved ones and friends on Friday, October 19 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Northside Chapel and Saturday morning, from 9:00am until the hour of service at the church. Interment will be in the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:30am. Professional Services from the Heart in care of the Northside Chapel of Sarah L. Carter's Funeral Home, 6665 New Kings Rd (904) 765-4150.

My heart still aches for the tragic loss of two souls. I was Derricks Substitute teacher the Friday before he went to be with the Lord. He told me he was going fishing over the weekend, and I told him to catch some big fish, and to be careful. He told me he would, and never did I imagine that would be the last time I would speak with this sweet boy. Derrick was so kind and caring, and it was my honor to have known this little guy. May he and his Dad continue to rest in peace in the loving arms of our Lord.

My faith teaches me that when we are absent from the body, we are present in the Lord. Although I trust my faith, I can't seem to shake the fact that these precious beings are gone so soon. Family, I am praying for your continued strength and understanding and I pray that on our darkest days, the memories of Erik and Derrick will bring peace and comfort...With tears, Paulette
