When my father died someone wrote to me: "Do not be sad that he has gone: only be glad he ever was".
Of course we are sad, devastated, that Erin has gone, so quickly, so unexpectedly. But we are so very glad that she was, for too short a time, part of our lives. Wherever we are.
May God bless and comfort all who mourn the loss of Erin.

Erin & I have worked together @ Mayo Clinic for many years. I feel very honored to have known her, she was always there when I needed her. We have lost a very special person but she will remain in our hearts forvever. My prayers go out to her fanily during this difficult time.

She'll be so missed among the Shipmates, our Erin. Wielder of the Rusty Farm Implement. Chomper of Trolls. Tiny Invisible Judge. Terror in Green Armor. All that. Yet she was a tender and supportive advisor (to those in need of such, admittedly usually privately, but still!), and willing to share and bare her own faults and foibles when the situation called for it.
*Sigh* We've lost all those Erins, every one. What will we do now?

My prayers and deepest sympathy go out to Erin's family. As a former classmate, I will cherish our happy memories; especially braiding Erin's hair for high school functions. As I think back to our high school days, Erin was truly a jewel! After reading the many posts on her website, it seems she was still a jewel; so I know you're still shining bright in heaven Erin! On this earth there are only two types of immortality, that you have through your children and that you gain through greatness. Erin achieved the second, not just on Ship-of-Fools, but the way she structured and regulated the boards has been copied in numerous places.
In that on the internet there are places which are neither highly regulated nor in venomous turmoil but genuine discussion takes place is in part due to Erin. As long as that continues the world will be a better place for Erin having been in it.

Erin was a smart witty woman. I have worked with Erin at Mayo Clinic for 7 yrs and she helped me and many others succeed at what we do. Her loss is great and she will be missed by so many. May you all find peace with such a great loss. We will miss you Erin!

Deepest condolences to the Etheredge family. I too only knew Erin through Ship of Fools, but felt I knew her personally. My intention at Mass on Sunday will be for the repose of her immortal soul, and I'll light a real candle then.

Yet another of the Shipmates mourning a great loss. Erin was kind to me when I was a 'newbie' (way back in '98!) and I've always enjoyed her contributions to the Ship, while avoiding the 'fangs'!

It is difficult to put into words how important Erin was to Mayo Clinic, it's staff and our patients. Erin demonstrated complete sincerity, integrity, and reliability in every interaction. Her witty responses kept me smiling. I will miss you Erin.

Her impact is revealed by the heartbreak felt by those of us on the Ship Of Fools who never met her, nor even knew what she looked like. She will live on in two eternities - an eternity with the God she loved, and an eternity in cyberspace with those who loved her.
I hope that she can now finally realise she was a croc all along. Just look at the teeth.

Erin is truly an international figure known for her work as Community Editor for Ship-of-Fools.com. She would not put up with nonsense, but was unstinting in her efforts to maintain the well-being of the discussion boards.

How could I forget the joy and fun you have given me for 11 years? All the cards, books, messages-I have kept them all.
Your life touched so many of us on the Ship. You are unforgettable all over the world. (How many people can say that in their lifetime? )

Sherry, I am so sorry about Erin. We worked together 20+ years ago at Flagler Hospital and we had such fun. Erin and I shared many laughs....and she was so smart! She is mourned by all her know her.

I am one of the many people around the world who knew Erin online. Altough we never met face to face - until a few hours ago I didn't even know what she looked like - over the last 10 years I have come to regard her as a friend. She could be scary and very blunt, but was also genuinely kind, considerate and warm hearted. The world is a poorer place without her.

There is a word in Deg Hit'an Athabascan, entirely too long to put here (and i'm not sure I can spell it) the literal translation is, "care for yourself, as I would care for you if I could be with you" it is said when you dont know if you'll ever see someone again. I lit a candle for Erin today in St Michael's Cathedral, Kottapuram here in Kerala. This afternoon I was thinking of the song from Beaches and the line "Don't you know that you're my hero" - she was in so many ways. And yes, I know she'll be cringing at my saying that!
