Ernest Palmer Obituary

PALMER Ernest Ralph Palmer, born September 6, 1932, passed through the valley of the shadow of death into eternal life surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Ernie loved Jesus and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. He also served on the board of Christian Light Ministries for several years. Upon leaving the Air Force in 1956 he began a career in the car business for Oakley Motor Co. in Memphis, TN. From there his legacy began, starting car dealerships in Mobile, AL and Jacksonville, FL. He retired from Ernie Palmer Toyota in April 1988 to pursue his passion for traveling, camping, Braves baseball and spending time with his lovely wife. Ernie's true legacy is the love he had for the family he left behind, his precious, Godly wife of 65 years, Janette G. Palmer; two sons, Mike (Sandy) Palmer, Keith (Rene) Palmer; one daughter, Pamela (Mark) Cleland; one brother, Don (Judy) Palmer; one very special Potna, Tommy Kesler (brother-in-law) and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, August 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 13 at noon in First Baptist Church of Jacksonville's Hobson Auditorium on the corner of Church St. and Hogan St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Jacksonville, Attn: South Campus Building Fund, 124 W. Ashley St. Jacksonville, FL 32202. Ernie persevered in the faith until the end of his days. He Finished Well. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223, www.hgmandarin.com, 904-288-0025.

Ernie was a one of a kind Prince of a Man. A wonderful person who was devoted to his wife and family. We will dearly miss the wit and humor of the stories he loved to tell as well as his love of life. Though a hugely successful businessman, Ernie was always a humble spirit. Those of us lucky and privileged enough to be touched by Ernie were much better for it. Our prayers are with the Palmer family. We too loved Ernie.

He was a legend in the car business. And a mentor to many. One of his students told me just today that Ernie taught him everything he knows in the car business. And more importantly many life lessons. That student is Mike Scott. My entire family is praying for the Palmer family. Love y'all. I'm betting that Ernie is having a conversation about the car business with Mr. Moran (founder of JM Family...Southeast Toyota...and my company World Omni / Southeast Toyota Finance).

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all during this difficult time.

It's been a very long time, so you may not remember me, but I'm Bill and Wanda Moore's youngest daughter. Mike Moore was my brother, and Michelle is my sister.
