ETHEL HESSE Obituary

HESSE Ethel Mary Ogden Hesse, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on March 3, 2013. Born January 26, 1918, in Sharon, PA to Matthew Brice Ogden, Sr. and Edna Roselma Kohlhepp Ogden she was descended from American colonist John Ogden of Rye, NY and Revolutionary War soldiers Daniel Ogden, Jr., William Bloom, Sr., and Thomas Wakefield. She was a member of the DAR. Ethel married John Herman Henry Hesse on May 21, 1941. The couple lived in Jacksonville, FL all their married life. Herman preceded her in death on February 28, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Linda Catherine, and her brother Matthew Brice Ogden, Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanne (Roger) Kramer and Barbara (John) Baron, grandchildren John William Baron III and Katherine Anne Baron, nieces Ginger (Ed) Murphy, Beth (Charlie) Reddick and Susanne (Mike) Cusick and nephews Matthew B. Ogden III and Rev. Michael Hesse. A 1934 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville she next attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) before becoming a Certified Professional Secretary working many years for Thompson S. Baker of Florida Rock Industries. Over the years she was an active member of the Garden Club and Trinity Lutheran Church where she loved to sing in the choir. She could play the piano beautifully. For many years she was a Girl Scout troop leader using her artistic creativity to interest and enlighten her girls and never missed an opportunity to take them camping. Being accomplished, organized and successful herself she made sure her daughters all had the opportunity to learn many skills. Upon Herman's death Ethel moved to Miami Lakes, FL to live with her daughter Barbara and her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend whose tender care and encouragement were sources of inspiration to those she loved. Toward the end, while bed-ridden, she jokingly asked Barbara if the reason she couldn't get up was because her daughter had clipped her wings and sent them to the dry cleaners. Now Ethel has a bright, shining new pair with which to fly. She will be lovingly remembered and we thank God for the time we had with her. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16th at Miami Lakes United Methodist Church, 14800 NW 67th Ave., Miami Lakes, FL 33014. A private graveside ceremony will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miami Lakes United Methodist Church. Dear family, I hold many great memories of your mom while we worked together at Professional Insurance. She taught me so much. She was a good friend and mentor. She will be missed. She's with your dad now and happy!!

Dear Jeanne and Barbara, I hold dear the memory of your Mother, she was, without a doubt, truly a gentle lady of our times. I remember so very well babysitting with you, Jeanne and Linda. I also remember the happy times we spent at your Grandma Ellas home. Just being able to continue a good relationship with my Step-Grandfather Carl Wackernah, was such a previlage. Your entire family took us all in with such love and acceptance. The dresses Grandma Ella made for me , I still have because I thought they were just so beautiful. I'm sure you must have some of these treasures too. My heartfelt condolences to both of you and your families. My memories are so good. Sincerely, Roberta Newman Simmons----------------------------------------------
