Frederick Braren Obituary

BRAREN Frederick Ingwert Braren, 82, of Ponte Vedra Beach, died peacefully, March 6, 2004, following a lengthy illness. Fred was a Jacksonville native, born to German immigrant parents, Bernard Karl Braren and Inge Frederick Roeloff of Fohr, Germany. Frederick was a graduate of Lee High School and the Citadel. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was one of the founding members of the GJEO Greater Jacksonville Economic Organization, which served inner city development and was the owner and operator of one of the oldest and longest running liquor businesses in downtown Jacksonville. He was a Gold member of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club and was a longtime supporter of St. Paul's Catholic Church and School of Jacksonville Beach. Fred was married to his adoring wife of 54 years, Helen Ahern Braren and together they had four daughters, Susan B. (Henry) Puente of Ponte Vedra Beach, Christine B. (Richard) Fulford of Rocky Mt., N.C., Lisa A. Braren of Jacksonville; two sons, Mic hael E. (Lauren) Braren of Ponte Vedra Beach and Fritz Braren of Jacksonville; sister, Christine Searcy of Ponte Vedra Beach; brothers, Bernard Braren of Jacksonville and Edward Braren of St. Augustine and 10 wonderful grandchildren. His daughter, Paula Braren, predeceased him in death. A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 10th in the H. Warren Smith Cemetery of Jacksonville Beach with the Reverend William Kelly officiating. The Beaches Honor Guard will provide full military honors. A reception and wake for family and friends will be held at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 10th at the home of Susan and Henry Puente, 186 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paulâs Catholic Church, 224 North 5th Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
