Gordon Millard Obituary

MILLARD Gordon Millard, passed peacefully on his 91st birthday, September 24, 2009 at Westminster Woods at Julington Creek. He was born in Williamson, WV, September 24, 1918 to Elbert and Flora Millard and raised in Huntington, WV. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served his country proudly during WWII on the USS Saugus. Gordon was the Former member on the Boards of Directors for the Westminster Canterbury Homes of Virginia, Boys and Girls Club of Huntington, WV, Riverview Manor and the Presbyterian Manor in Huntington, WV, former member elder and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Huntington, WV and active in Charlie's Boys, former employee of Heiners Bakery, past President and former member of Huntington District Labor Council, and Former Mayor and city Councilman of Huntington, WV. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gordon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Rose Millard and his brother James Millard. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter Linda (James) Mabe, grandchildren, James (Cherisse) Mabe, Beth (Jerry) Linder, Cathy (Les) Scherr, 5 great-grandchildren, and many treasured friends. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Mandarin Presbyterian, 11844 Mandarin Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32223 where Gordon was a dedicated member. Rev. Kevin Pound and Rev. Jeff Arnold will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Community Hospice of N.E. FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257 or Mandarin Presbyterian Capital Building Fund at the address listed above. Arrangements are entrusted to Hardage Giddens Mandarin Chapel, 904-288-0025.
