Dr. Stewart possessed the rare mix of a keen mind and a warm heart. He combined the mind of a philosopher and the faith of a theologian. His kindness and patience were felt in the classroom at Jacksonville Jr. College when a student had no idea of the philosophical concept he was teaching.

Dr. Stewart gave many of us a foundation for a faith that invited questions. He taught us that a meaningful life was a life examined.

I am thankful for his life and influence. Many loved him and I am one of them.

I was very blessed to have Dr. Stewart as my pastor when I was a young man at Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

He was both a great preacher and a compassionate pastor. No man had more influence on my life than did Dr. Stewart. He taught me that it was not wrong to question my faith and search for answers in a logical and persistent way. He had a wonderful mind and a deeply spiritual nature. He was a remarkable, and, for me, unique person.

He inspired me to major in Philosophy and I never regretted it. He also sparked my first love for Scotland.

Dr. Stewart touched more lives than we will ever know, both scholarly and otherwise. He was loved and respected by a host of people.

Dr. Stewart's love was a blessing to me in the late fifties at Stetson. I will always remember his kindness and the sparkle in his eyes. I hope his last years were good ones. My father, Carl Howell, was a longtime friend of his.

Dr. Stewart married my parents, William and Olive Mahoney, 49 years ago. My Grandparents attended Riverside Baptist, my mama was baptized there in 1926, and I am sure listed to many wonderful sermons of his as well.

Dr. Stewart was a wonderful gentleman-always so kind, friendly, and so, so smart. He baptised me over 50 years ago at Riverside Baptist Church. My thoughts and prayers are with his wonderful family.
