To all the Mchale family:

We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Jerry was a wonderful man and a great cousin. We enjoyed our country cousin get togethers in PA and FLA. We felt close to you even though we were many miles apart. You and your family's hospitality on our last visit with you will always be a good memory, especially the introduction to a "low country boil". Jerry will be sadly missed.

Love, Phil, Kathy, Gina, Jarod, Justin and Tyler Marino

I choose to remember you with happiness, not sorrow, to think of you in good times, not in bad, to remember you as my cousin and the fun times we had when you came to visit. Those times together I will never forget. You will always be with us. Rest in pease with Aunt Mary, and my Mom and Dad, your Aunt Virgie and Uncle Nick.

I can't remember ever actually being introduced to Jerry. I know that we never sat and had coffee nor even a conversation together. It was often that way at JSO. Yet somehow people would seem to know each other, like long time cousins at a long overdue family reunion. They haven't seen each other in many years, yet they shake hands or embrace and recall "oh yea, how have you been?" I have been retired and gone from JSO for just over a year now. I knew nothing of us losing this good man until, August 4th, when I got my Police and Fire Pension Newsletter. And even though I did not really know Jerry very well at all, as soon as I saw his name there before me, just like the memory of that old lost cousin, I could see his face so clearly. Just as it had been so many times during the years that I was still working. Each and every time that our paths did cross, he would never fail to come up to me with that big smile on his face and shake my hand and ask me "how you doing man??" just as though we were the best of friends or family. I never thought for a moment that it was unusual. In fact I was very much filled with a feeling that made me think, what a good person this must be and how amazingly unique for a person to take that attutude with him all of the time. I would be amiss if I did not say how encouraging it was to be nice to the next person that I met after just having walked away from Jerry McHale. I suppose that I wondered what would make a man behave in that manner....what could possibly make him so happy and on top of the world all of the time. I don't know what compelled me to research the website to find this guestbook. But I'm very happy that I did, because I believe that it gave me a little insight into the person that Jerry was. After having read all of the beautiful things that people, friends and family and co-workers, have contributed and shared, I have, I think, found what I was probably seeking. That is that he was a man who experienced as well as loved life. A man who took great pride in his family. A man who had a love for his wife and children, far deeper than any ocean. And most importantly, a man who would walk up to someone that he hardly even knew, shake that person's hand and say "how you doing man?"

That was obviously who Jerry McHale was.

He is to be mourned....

He is to be missed....

He is to be loved...

Now he is to be envied..

for now he is up there in heaven shaking hands with our Holy Father. God Bless you McHales'

Please don't be afraid. Yes, life is different now but remember when it was beautiful? Well it will be again, though not the same. The wounds will heal, your tears will dry and though scars remain, I know you are strong enough to live through the pain.

Do not grieve and linger in the shadows of graves. Go out into the sunshine and tell everyone I was here. When we were together we lived, worked and loved. And though I am gone, you will carry on for me because you must.

Tell my family how much I loved them and still do. Remember the good we shared, the life we created, and walk forward with noble dreams. God can't fill a shattered heart or a clenched fist. Let fear die and let love flow again like a river.

So as the smoke rises high above the ask, gather all your strength and rebuild something new, something better. It's not impossible. It's essential. It's what I would do for you.

Just one last thing, surely you must know, I was escorted by angels. And though you might feel alone, you are not and neither am I.

Was so sorry to hear about Jerry. I was the oldest Jackson to grow up next door to the McHales. My fondest memory of Jerry was the tale of his goldfish eating days. What a great kid he was. Was never fortunate enough to know him all grown up. God bless his family.

To The McHale Children - Your dad and I were hired with J.S.O. at the same time and worked together in Corrections for the first few years. He proved himself to be not only a good and loyal friend, but a courageous officer and one of the funniest guys I have ever known. We had lost contact with each other for many years, but on Friday July 8th, we had a conversation that I will always remember. I told him to fill me in on what's been happening in his life for the past 20 years. The first thing he said was, "I've got two great kids!" He spoke tirelessly of the both of you, with great pride and love in every word. He told me that life has been good to him and that he was happy. I hope that you and your family can find some comfort in his words. I am so very sorry for your loss. Your dad will be greatly missed by many.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful friend. The night Jerrys life ended, we came home, cried and talked as a family about Jerry for hours, about happy times, and the more we talked, the more we started to laugh, in all of our memorys Jerry made us laugh, even when he was mad he was funny. We blasted Neil Young for hours that day- and it was comforting. We will always remember Jerry turning into Neil Young in the wee hours of the morning. It's hard to imagine that Jerry is no longer a phone call away. He has touched our family and taught our family so much, and we loved him and will miss him so much..We love all of you-- Natalie and Nick: Your Dad was so proud of you both and will always be with you and would want you to live life to the fullest like he did.

Barbie: I can't say that I ever met a couple more in love then you and Jerry, He would go through withdrawals waiting for you to get off work. You were husband and wife, friends, parents, you worked hard together and played hard together, you both celebrate life and its been an inspiration. About 10 years ago you told us you and Jerry were soul-mates, after knowing you both and how you lived, you proved it. You are so blessed with that knowledge to hold on to. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ed, Renee, Frank and Matt.

For those of you who don't know me, i'm Jerry's oldest nephew. Jerry has always been a second father to me. I've looked up to and admired Jerry my whole life. Other kids had heros like superman they looked up to, Jerry was mine. I was with Jerry when I killed my first deers and drank my first beers. I remember staying with Jerry and Barbie during my summer breaks from school and staying up until 3 a.m. waiting for Jerry to come home from work. Jerry was my inspiration for going into the military and after that for becoming a police officer. Almost everything in my life i've molded after Jerry. I learned how to be a great father and a great husband from watching Jerry with Barbie and the kids. I was fortunate enough to have been home just last week and my new wife and I got to spend a few days with Jerry and Barbie. The last thing Jerry said to me as he was giving me a hug was that he loved me and that he was proud of me. That is the best memory I could ever have of my hero.

Well I love you too Uncle Jerry, i'm so sorry that we never got to take our motorcycle ride together. When we finally do meet up again we will ride together in Heaven on streets made of gold!

Barbie, Natalie and Nick,

I want to let you know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

As you know, Jerry has been one of my very best friends for over 40 years. A few things will always come to mind as I think about Jerry McHale.

First, I think of his incredible sense of humor and the many times we laughed until we were literally in tears. The man was fun, he was funny, and he was a good and loyal man. He was as good a friend as one could ever ask for. I feel fortunate to have been his friend for all these years.

I think it is safe to say that we never "really" knew what he was going to say, but gosh, whatever he came up with was certainly entertaining!!! He brought alot of joy to alot of people. That, to me, is the essence of Jerry McHale. And damn, I'm going to miss him!!

Second, his love for his wife, Barbie, and family was paramount. Natalie and Nick, his love for and pride in you was immense. Always know that his love will last for eternity.

I love you guys and I pray that God is with you through this time. I will always be a phone call away. May God Bless You and Bless us all during this very sad time.

Jerry, I'll see you on the other side one day......we'll catch up, we'll tell dumb jokes and we will laugh again. But for now, through many tears and a heavy heart I pray, my friend, that you Rest In Peace. I Love You Jerry....LDS

On Behalf of the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps, its Board of Directors, Captain, staff and membership may God bless you and keep you always. May you find eternal peace as you rest with our Lord.

Barbie, Natalie and Nicholaus you must know and remember frequently that this man we all loved and respected was indeed a man of great integrity and courage. He believed in the very soul of right and wrong and worked tirelessly to uphold that standard.

We are all heart sick and so compromised by the loss of a man we all knew as a professional who took the time with each of us to share his wisdom and kindness. His abilities as a seasoned police investigator stand second to none and infact seek to underscore the very talent necessary to achieve the level of success that defines greatness and accomplishment.

Jerry was all of this to all of us.

He will forever be a part of our very hearts and each of us will speak fondly of the man that we had the great privilege of calling a friend.

God Bless You MAC !
