LIFE CELEBRATION SERVICE for Mrs. Jessie Bell Ward, who passed away Friday, May 5, 2018, will be held 11 AM, SATURDAY, May 12, 2018 at New Redeem Missionary Baptist Church, 1614 E. 30th St., where she held membership, Rev. Derrick Mercer, Sr., Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Ward was a Soperton, Georgia native, where she received her formal education prior relocating to Jacksonville, FL where she attended Stanton Senior High School. Mrs. Ward was employed as a Bus Attendant with Durham Bus, Inc. and First Student for many years. Other affiliations include, President of Ushers Union of Emanuel Progressive Assc. for 38+ years, State Director for Ushers Union for Florida General Baptist Convention, Recording Secretary for Laymen Dept. of the General Baptist Convention and numerous other capacities. She was predeceased by her husband, George H. Ward and daughters, Ms. Delphenia Russ and Ms. DeLaon Ward. Survivors include her son, George W. Ward (Susie); daughters, Ms. Lorraine Ward-Tolbert, Mrs. Patricia Medlock (Larry) and Mrs. Rosalyn Sumter (Gus); 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Ward will rest in the mortuary for visitation FRIDAY from 4PM until 7PM (where the family will receive friends at 4) and Saturday at the church from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the church under the direction of ALPHONSO WEST MORTUARY, INC. 4409 Soutel Dr. (904)766-9671.
