Jules Anthony Simoneaux

1930 - 2016

SIMONEAUX Jules Anthony Simoneaux passed away at age 85 after a brief illness on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He was the beloved husband and father of three. He was born to Ella Pennison and Clay Simoneaux on December 20, 1930 at the Oak Bluff Plantation located in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Jules served in the US Navy for 22 years, meeting his wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Paula Sandstrom at the US Naval Training Center located in Bainbridge, MD. They were married there at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel on August 30, 1958. During his service in the Navy the family traveled back and forth multiple times to California, Jacksonville and Puerto Rico. He also served tours of duty in Iceland and Viet Nam before retiring and moving back to Jacksonville in 1971. He worked for the Times Union on two separate occasions over many years as well as working for St. Paul United Methodist Church. Jules was an active member of the Assumption Church for 45 years, many of which he served as an Usher. He also volunteered for many years with the Memorial Hospital Jacksonville Auxiliary Organization. He was a kind and helpful person doing whatever he could to assist those in need. Jules was preceded in death by his brothers Steven and Ernest. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Jackie; three children, Steve Simoneaux (Janet), Renee Miller (Gordon), Guy Simoneaux (Linda); five grandchildren, Jessica Simoneaux, Guy Simoneaux Jr., Alex Simoneaux, Sarah Miller, and Richard Miller. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Corey-Kerlin Funeral Homes & Crematory located at 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, with Father Frederick Parke as celebrant. Interment will be in the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to a favorite charity or Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville FL.
