I'll miss you Karl! You always had time to talk to everyone and generally cared how they were. You taught use to treat people fairly and with a warm smile (even if they were a Red Sox fan)! I'll never forget your wonderful jokes and smile now that you are at the pearly gates with St. Peter.

My condolences to all of Karl's family and loved ones.

It was less than ten weeks ago that Karl and his family honored my brother Ed Schaefer by attending his wake and funeral. Karl and Ed went way back. Back to the old neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn and their beloved Blue Room bar (or was it social club?). And, they found themselves, eventually, close again in the Jacksonville area during later years.

At my brother's wake, it was Karl, looking up as he entered the viewing room, seeing me in front of him, and exclaiming Timmy! He had an amazing memory and great good humor. He regaled us that day with wonderful stories of the old days. And, for a while, lessened the burden we had to bear during that trying time. Now, it is our turn.

To Joan and the whole family, please know that I and my family so appreciated our time with you all. And hope that all of the wonderful memories of a truly great man will sustain you in the coming days, as well.

I like to think that, right now, Karl and Eddie (and my brother, Kenny, another Blue Room officer) are hoisting some cold ones and basking in their friendship and love.

Love, Tim Hanley
