Katie Drummond Obituary

DRUMMOND Katie Drummond, 7, of Fernandina Beach, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at Nassau Medical Center. Katie was born in Jacksonville, FL and lived all her life in Fernandina Beach. She was a faithful member of Springhill Baptist Church, was a very active member in A.W.A.N.A. under Debbie Hopper, and was a straight A student and in the gifted program at Southside Elementary School. Katie loved being outdoors playing on the monkey bars, going to Amelia Island Arts Academy, singing in the Academy Singers Choir, and really enjoyed learning and playing on the computer. Survivors include her parents, Ben and Joanna Drummond; sister, Jennifer Drummond all of Fernandina Beach; paternal grandmother, Claudette Drummond-Fort Mill, SC; 5 aunts, Julie Crew-Statham, GA, Harriet Jett-Woodstock, GA, Sharon Oliver-Ft. Mill, SC, Theresa Blosser-Hockessin, DE and Linda Esser-Pleasanton, CA; and a host of cousins and many loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday at Oxley- Heard Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Springhill Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Hayes, Pastor, officiating. A private interment will be later on Friday at Bosque-Bello Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southside Elementary School. Katies answer to the question “ Why does it mean that God is sovereign?” was, “ That means that He is in charge and control of everything on earth.” Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. Dear Ben, Joanna and Jennifer, There is no way that we can comprehend your recent tragedy, and we know that it has left you searching for answers that might be difficult to ever find. Please know that in your darkest hours, your pain touches all of us and we mourn your loss as if it were our own. Safely Home

I am home in Heaven,dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade?

Oh! but Jesus' love illuminated

Every dark and fearful glade.

And he came Himself to meet me

In that way so hard to tread;

And with Jesus' arm to lean on,

Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,

For I love you dearly still:

Try to look beyond earth's shadows,

Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you

So you must not idly stand;

Do it now, while life remaineth-

You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you home;

Oh, the rapture of the meeting,

Oh, the joy to see you come.

Dear Ben, Joanna and Jennifer:

My thoughts and prayers are with you all everyday since the loss of your precious daughter and sister. I love my children so much and I honestly can not imagine life without them. I can only hope that my faith in God would give me strength and hope for the future.

I see that Katie was a special child in so many ways and loved by so many! What a comfort the outpouring of love must be for you all.

Joanna, I haven't seen you in over 20 years but I feel a closeness to you through Harriet (whom I also haven't seen in 20 years) and I have thought about you often over the years.

I love this wonderful technology we have today that keeps long lost friends in touch.

We will continue praying for your family to find some peace and comfort in time.

Hold on to your faith.....and to Jennifer.

Love in Christ

Ben, Joanna, Jennifer,

Not a day has gone by since 1/15/02 that you have not been lifted before our God. How thankful I am that we cannot exhaust his reservoir of comfort and strength.

Sunday night I asked the Lord for a specific word for you guys in the Bible as I opened to my place in Isaiah. I read in chapter 43: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

A confirmation of the word "pass."

Rick and I, and the boys, love you very much.

Dearest Joanna, Ben, and Jennifer, I, too, am a friend of Harriet's. I just read through all the guest book entries. People have given you some nice poetry. I just sat here and cried. You are all in my prayers. God and time will help to soothe the pain. Just take it one minute at a time and know there's lots of loving support all around you, seen and unseen.

Dearest Joanna and family...I know Harriet from the survivors' board, and I was so shocked and hurt for all of you to learn of Katie's death. In my mind I see her guardian angel taking her to her grandparents and them holding her close, but I know your arms ache for her. I lost a younger brother when he was 26, I can't imagine losing a little one like this. Please know that my sincere prayers will be with you in the days and months to come. love, fran

Little Angels

When God calls little children

to dwell with Him above,

We mortals sometime question

the wisdom of His love.

For no heartache compares with

the death of one small child

Who does so much to make our world,

seem wonderful and mild

Perhaps God tires of calling

the aged to his fold,

So He picks a rosebud,

before it can grow old.

God knows how much we need them,

and so He takes but few

To make the land of Heaven

more beautiful to view.

Believing this is difficult

still somehow we must try,

The saddest word mankind knows

will always be "Goodbye."

So when a little child departs,

we who are left behind

Must realize God loves children,

Angels are hard to find.

Rituals of Remembrance:

God's Lent Child

I'll lend you for a little while a child of mine, God said,

For you to love her while she lives, and mourn for when she's dead.

It may be six or seven years,

or forty-two or three;

But will you, till I call her back, take good care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and should her stay be brief,

You'll have the lovely memories as a solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return;

But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.

I've searched the whole world over, for teachers kind and true;

And from the throngs that crowd life's lane I have chosen you...

Now will you give her all your love? Nor think the labor pain?

Nor hate me should the angels call, to take this child back again?

To which the parents did reply...

Dear Lord, Thy will be done.

For all the joys thy child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness,

We'll love her while we may...

for all the love this child will bring,

forever grateful we will stay.

But should the Angels call for her,

much sooner than we've planned,

We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,

and try to understand.

In the valley of grief,where the way is treacherous and we are so unsure of ourselves, we learn to trust God. Trust enables us to maintain perspective by walking by faith, not by sight as we go through the valley.
