Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com WOOD Leonora Sterling Wood “Lee” age 78 of New Bern died Monday, May 02, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Clay County, Florida in 1927 to Fannie and Ashton Sterling. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Jacksonville., Florida in the Class of 1945. She was a charter member of Black Beard Sailing Club; a member and past president of the Golden Age Club; a member and President for eight years of the Extension Community Association; Parliamentarian for three years for the NC ASCC; and a member of USCG Aux since 1979 and served in various offices, especially assisting in Knot Tying and for 14 years served as Water and Kids Safety Leader for children K-3 years of age. She was an avid craftsperson, gardener, homemaker and teacher who never allowed anything to best her ability to help others. She has been an inspiration to all who knew her over the 21 year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter E. Wood; one daughter, Sheila Brown and husband, Fred of Commerce City, Colorado; two sons, Christopher Wood and wife, Nancy of Houston, Texas, Mark Wood and wife, Ruth of Tampa, Florida; six grandchildren, Steven Burns, James Burns, Matthew Brown, Krista Brown, Alex Wood, Connor Wood; two great-grandchildren, Dakota Burns, Avalon Brown; one great-stepchild, Samantha Barker; one sister, Eloise Ellis and husband, Bill of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Herbert A. Sterling; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Terry S. “BJ” Burns, Keith Edling, Kevin Edling. A Memorial Service will be 4:30 PM Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Pollack-Best Funeral Home Chapel.
