Lester Comee Obituary

COMEE Lester H. Comee, 92, died on May 14, 2002 after living a full life. He was affectionately known as the kite man or the Culligan man by his friends. Les grew up on a quail farm outside Chicago. He served as a pilot and flight instructor during World War II. He loved flying. Later in his life he spent afternoons in his sailplane. During the war, he married Therma T. Comee and they had 2 boys: Lester and Bill. He was a good father and husband. Throughout his life he had a ready sense of humor. He enjoyed people. He tried to help people along whether at his work or later teaching neighborhood kids to fly kites. He loved his dance club, the Married Couples class and Logos at Riverside Presbyterian Church, and sitting around the table at the Grant-Dooleys house talking to Emily, Mary-Elizabeth, Jean, Cindy and Missy. He is survived by both sons; three grandchildren, Kim, David and John and one great-grandchild, Katie. An informal memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Treaty Oak Park on the Southbank. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave. Please sign the Guestbook at Jacksonville.com

Les, Billy and Marilyn and family,

thinking of your dad always will bring a smile to my face. Watching my children Ariel and JOey interact with him at the fires or in 5 points made me appreciate him all the more. I am happy he is with his beloved wife and God and watching over all of the community.

with sincere thoughts and sympathy

To the family; Mr. Comee, was my boss for over 12 yrs. from the first day I was hired untill this day I never wanted to work for anyone but him. I can see him sitting at his chair every morning when I would come in he would stand-up an say, Hi-Boy, come in my office. I loved him like a Dad. He made feel like a son, I did not know at the time the Lord, was showing me a man that had grace. With my Love

Dear Les & Bill - It is with mixed emotions I send this to you and your families. Working with your father for the time he was here at Riverside Presbyterian House was a joy and a blessing. His joking when he first came in and his waving from his window was such a pleasure.

Please accept my condolences and prayers for you and yours. We certainly know your Father is okay. He's back to the person you so readily remember from years gone by...and isn't that a wonderful thing to have with you always?

With understanding - Nancy Armstrong
