Martha Strickland Obituary

STRICKLAND Martha Walden Strickland, 67, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on April 23, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born on August 22, 1942 in Savannah Georgia and moved to Jacksonville at the age of six. She was the oldest of four children. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, class of 1960. On March 20, 1964 she married the love of her life and together they had four children. She was the best mother and wife anyone could ever have. Martha had a passion for horses and in her younger years loved riding them and barrel racing at Bit & Spur. She enjoyed garage sales and found great pleasure in the many treasures she would find. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Martha exemplified love in the truest sense. She loved without condition and looked to the hope that each new day would bring. She instilled that love in her family and offered it to everyone she knew. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Paul Strickland. Parents, Duke Walden and Mary Cowan Walden. Children, Mary 'Christie' Strickland (Gene), Paula Strickland Evers (Jeff), Darren A. Strickland (Brenda), Carrie Strickland. Siblings, Jeannie Walden 'Mazza' Prudot, Rosie Walden Booth, Carlton Walden (Rebecca). Grandchildren, Michael, Jordan (Camie), Jake, Dylan, Elijah, Carlie, Emma, Zoe and one great-grandchild Huxlee. Nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family members and friends. Services will be Tuesday at 11am at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, FL with Reverend Marty Pfab officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service. 'Marty Mae' will be missed by all forever. Her new journey in paradise has begun.Arrangements by Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

Well Mom it has been a little more than a month since you received your glory in heaven. I still miss you just as much as ever. I will always miss you and look forward to the day when our souls meet again. I am going with what Carrie said "she knows you are in heaven reading this". So to you mom my tears are endless, not so much because you passed, because I know in my heart of hearts that was the best, my tears are for me and the rest of us as we struggle to not let it hurt so bad. You are on my mind everyday and I know you are always with me, I just wish I could touch and see your loving face that was filled with excitement each time I came to visit you. You were a wonderful mother, the best, I wouldn't have traded you for anyone no matter what. How blessed were we to have you be the mother of our family...so many times you saved us all from everything. I know your beauty still lives on through us. Daddy is learning alot, since you always handled most things but do not worry about him anymore because we are taking care of him. He is very sad and misses you much.

Thanks to everyone who came online and signed my mother's guestbook and also to everyone who attended her beautiful service.

My mom was a true treasure and her beauty shown well beyond her family as demonstrated by all the beautiful messages, food & comfort that was shown by so many people.

Christie & Paula,
I am so sorry to learn of our great loss. As old neighbors when you were young, we all loved your family very much. We always loved your Mother and have many childhood memories to cherish from our neighborhood. As you moved away and two more siblings came along, I am sorry that we didn't get to know them also. Thru the years as I ran into Martha she would tell me about her other two children and how proud she was of all her children. Then came the grandchildren, oh the joy that they brought into her life. We will all miss Martha but have comfort in knowing that we will see her again in heaven. Love from the Medders Clan!

Mom,
I know that you are in heaven reading this. It gives me great comfort to know that you do not hurt any longer. I am sorry that I caused you any pain by making you stay longer, I just wanted you with me so badly. No one, can replace you in my heart. No one will love, care, and take pride in me like you did. I miss you so desperately. As you lay dying I often told you how beautiful and wonderful you were and it seemed you never quite believed me. May God grant the grace of knowing what a precious gift you were to all. I want you here, but that I know will never be again. It would be a priceless gift just to hear "i love you" one more time from my sweet mother. I know you needed to go be with Barbara. I know that you are with your best friend and you are looking down upon us and protecting the ones you love. I would be lying to say I didnt want you here. I feel so alone without you. I love you mama. Please come to me in my dreams. I would love to see you again.

Love Always,
Your loving daughter.
