MARTIN HIGDON Obituary

HIGDON Martin Marty Leroy Higdon, 57, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his home in Maxville, surrounded by his family & friends. He was born January 12, 1954 to James Bud & Lorelle Higdon. Marty was a life long resident of Maxville. He is preceded in death by his father, Bud Higdon. He grew up as a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Marty was a true family man, he loved to cook and be surrounded with friends, family and laughter. Marty was a well respected business man, operating his own steel fabrication company for 13 years. He was also an avid outdoor sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. Most of all, Marty enjoyed life. He loved to laugh and left us with many wonderful memories. Marty is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debra; sons, Martin (Kristi), Tony (Denise), James and Colton (Tamatha) Higdon; brothers, Joe, Lonnie (Martha) and David (Jennifer) Higdon; sister, Rita Hazelwood (Chris); grandchildren, Hughstin, Martin, (Jr.), Michelle, Kearstin, Seth, Austin and Liberty Higdon; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 10 am at the First Baptist Church of Maxville, 8635 Maxville Blvd, with Rev. Terry Yerby officiating. Interment will follow in Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville. Active pallbearers: sons, Martin, Tony, Jamie and Colton Higdon, brothers, Joe and Davy Higdon. Honorary bearers: Big Jr. Higdon, Robbie Freeman, Lonnie Higdon, Hughstin Higdon, Lil Jr. Higdon, Austin Higdon, Seth Higdon and Jack Blackburn. The family will receive friends on Friday (TODAY) from 6-8pm at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville. I have lots of wonderful memories of Uncle Marty and the rest of the family, most of them memories are from the hunting club. He was a great man and he will never be forgotten. Mrs. Higdon and family, It sadden me when I heard about Mr. Marty. We know that we will see him again one day in heaven.
