Newell Mitchell Obituary

MITCHELL Newell D. Mitchell left us peacefully from his home Friday morning Nov 27, 2015 at age 91 of natural causes. Mitch was born on Jan 18, 1924 in Seattle, WA and grew up in Oakland, CA. A student at the Univ of California, he joined the US Army Air Force in 1943 has an officer trainee becoming an expert B-17 pilot. Mitch married Dolores Robarts in 1946, now deceased. Mitch had a distinguished 33-year career in the USAF and is a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars. He piloted B-26's in Korea and F-4 Phantom jets over Vietnam. Colonel Mitchell was a highly decorated combat pilot with two Silver Stars, two Legion of Merits, two Distinguished Flying crosses and numerous other meritorious medals. He retired to Hilton Head, SC in 1975. Mitch is survived by his wife, Catherine Luchino-Mitchell and his sons, Jeffrey G. Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL and William R. Mitchell of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. As a distinguished veteran and war hero, he was recognized on the field of the November 19, 2015 Jaguars game at the football stadium. He was beloved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
