Rex Dillingham Obituary

DILLINGHAM Our dear friend and neighbor, Rex H. Dillingham, who came to live with us a few years ago to be near his companion, Nancy Labry, died in Orange Park On Sept. 7, 2017. Hailing from South Carolina, he was interred in the Veterans Cemetery at Fort Jackson, Columbia. His four surviving children, several grandchildren, his sister and his partner for life, Nancy Labry, along with many old friends, were in attendance at the military service. Rex earned his BA from Davidson College and his Doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina. His practice in Columbia, SC, became the largest single-doctor family practice in the state. He volunteered at the free clinic, and he opened his practice to students of MUSC for their family practice rotation. He somehow found time to be a supporter of the Columbia arts community, serving on boards, and appearing in several stage productions such as Annie, Hello Dolly and The Nutcracker. Rex also proudly served his country as a medical physician. In the Air Force, during Vietnam, he staffed helicopter units. Upon returning to the States, he became a reservist. Again on active duty, he served in Desert Storm and other assignments. He retired with the rank of Colonel. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 4PM at Winterbourne in Orange Park.
