Shirley Bates Obituary

BATES Shirley Harvard Bates was born October 22, 1937 in New York City, New York to Julia and Sylvester Robinson. She attended the Kingsboro Community College where she received a medical degree in Nursing. Shirley moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1984. She was employed at University Hospital and later became employed at Fletchers Home Care until she became ill. Shirley was a very special person who was devoted to her family and friends. Shirley Harvard Bates departed this life on August 19, 2002. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Rich. Her survivors include: her beloved husband, John Bates; daughters, Gevoda Cottman (Keith), Darlene Robinson; three granddaughters, Latisha Robinson, LaRonda Robinson and LaTerria Robinson; two grandsons and four great grandchildren: LaKesha Robinson, Andre K. Perry, Jr.; two special aunts, Mozella Haynes and Hortense Lagria; parents-in-law, Mayhew and Josephine Bates; seven brothers-in- law; eight sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Bates will rest in the mortuary for visitation, Thursday (today) from 5-8 p.m. and in the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in Right Direction Baptist Church, 2560 Bethel Road, Rev. John L. Jackson, Pastor, Rev. Swindoll Edwards, officiating.
