Thomas Baumer Obituary
Thomas M. Baumer, Friends are invited to services for Thomas Maxwell Baumer, 62, who died Wednesday, July 4, 2001. The son of Margaret Susan and Frederick Herman Baumer, he was born and lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of Bishop Kenny High School, The University of Notre Dame, and the University of Florida College of Law, he began a 36 year legal career in 1964, as an Assistant United States Attorney. In 1967, he joined Mahoney, Hadlow, Chambers, & Adams law firm where he specialized in civil litigation. He became a partner of the firm, and subsequently served as head of the litigation department and president of the firm. Most recently, he was the senior partner and president of the Baumer, Bradford and Walters law firm. In October 2000, Baumer, Bradford & Walters merged with Smith, Gambrell & Russell, a large firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. His competitive nature served him well in the courtroom and on the golf course. For the past 25 years he played golf nearly every Saturday and Sunday with a regular foursome, first at San Jose Country Club, and then at the Pablo Creek Club where he was a founding member. He looked forward to eventual retirement and many more rounds of golf with his friends. Tom was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and he served for 10 years on the St. Vincents Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees. He was also a Director of the former Marine Bank of Jacksonville, and a member of the University of Notre Dame Sorin Society. He is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Maxwell; and daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Lance Chambers (Charlotte, NC), and Susan and Michael Matta (Dallas, TX); four grandchildren, Lance, Catherine and Caroline Chambers and Thomas Matta; and one brother and sister in law, Frederick and Barbara Baumer (South Bend, IN). There will be a Vigil Friday evening, July 6th at 5:00 P.M. and a Memorial Mass at 10:30 A.M. Saturday July 7, concelebrated by Bishop John Snyder, Monsignors Daniel Logan and John Lenihan. Both services will be at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ponte Vedra Beach. There will be a reception in the Cultural Center of Our Lady Star of the Sea immediately following the mass.
