Thomas Watts Obituary

WATTS Thomas J. Watts, 91, devoted husband and father, went to be with his Lord February 21, 2016. Tom was born January 12, 1925, in Manatee, Florida and is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine (Gerry) Tuxson, as well as his parents, Troy and Mary Daniels Watts, and eight older brothers. Tom was an Elder at Forest Christian Church, a family man, and a gentle soul. He was an avid musician, mastering the Hawaiian steel guitar, dobro and his favorite instrument, the harmonica. He enjoyed playing and singing with friends and family. Tom served proudly in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the Navy in 1960 and serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Building Maintenance for the City of Jacksonville. He spent the last six years of his life, following his wife's passing, at Brookdale Southside, formerly the Carriage Club. There he enjoyed poker, bingo and many friendships, in particular the friendship of Aldine Holland. Tom is survived by his children: Jeri Houpe (Ron), Marilyn Holland (Charles), Dr. Jim Watts (Dr. Donna Sherrill), Jeanne Lovell and Robert Watts; grandchildren, Laura Burell, Robyn Nixon, Katherine Bunnell (Jeremy), Marion Dawkins (Andy), Whitney Watts, Erin Watts, Christian Watts, Mathew Lovell; great grandchildren, Shelby Houpe, Grace Bunnell, Mason Bunnell and Sophia Bunnell. The family will celebrate Tom's life Saturday, February 27, at 10:30 am, at Brookdale Southside, 9601 Southbrook Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32256. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Salvation Army Senior Art Class, c/o Major Vincent, 15 E. Church Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Arrangements under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Homes, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206 (904)355-9545.

uncle Thomas was a wonderful man I always enjoyed his visits to our house in port orange and also enjoyed being able to participate in the many poker games with my own father and uncle Thomas and with his other brothers as well he was such a pleasure to be around and I must admit quite humorous

Dear Robert & family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember your father as a kind man with a big smile on his face. Your Mom would always make a big ham with pineapple on top whenever I would come over with my Grandpa (Ed) because both men loved it so much! What a wonderful, long life to celebrate. Love, Joy (Linda's daughter), Joseph & Emily Simoneaux
