Wah Eng Obituary

ENG Wah Chan Eng was called up by the Lord on March 3, 2015. Chan was born September 25, 1927 in Jacksonville Florida. He attended John Gorrie Middle School, Robert E Lee High School and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. Chan ran track and played basketball. Following high school, he served in the Korean War. Afterwards, he returned to Jacksonville to work on the family farm Wing Lee Yuen and opened a Chinese restaurant named the Golden Dragon located on Beach Boulevard. He was well known in the community as Farmer Chan and The Bean Sprout Man. Chan is the final chapter of the Wing Lee Yuen Truck Farm spanning 4 generations in Jacksonville, Florida. Chan took over the family agricultural business in 1968 until the land was sold around 2010. While at the farm, they shipped a majority of the crops to Asian markets in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, San Francisco, and throughout Florida. He captured the local Jacksonville market delivering products to most of the Asian restaurants and food stores. A private person, he was well liked in the Asian community. His hobbies included hunting, fishing with his sons and daughter and cultivating the soils of the farm. Chan is predeceased by his parents Jung Fie Ng (father) and Lee Fong Ng (mother), brothers Wah Pon. Wah Yo, sisters Mae Jackie and Mae Sue Eng. He is survived by his wife Jenny Luu Eng, sons Larry Eng, Edward John Eng, Michael Earl Eng, daughter Debra Ann Eng-Kniess, brothers Wah Gat, Wah Quon, sisters Mae Hah, Mae Foon, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home 4747 Main Street North, Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be held Monday, March 9, 2015, from 6 pm to 8 pm, and March 10, 2015, 2 hours before the funeral service at George H Hewell and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
