WALKER WHALEY Obituary

WHALEY Walker Lanier Whaley, December 25, 1947 - May 31, 2012. We are sad to announce that on May 31, 2012, we lost our beloved Walker, a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. There are no words to describe what an amazing man he was. It was typical of him to bear his burdens silently, thinking more of others than himself. Walker was born in Augusta, GA and grew up in Jacksonville, FL, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He attended Oglethorpe College in Atlanta where he served as President of his graduating class, also President of his fraternity Phi Alpha. He then attended the University of Georgia Medical School. While in medical training, Walker was Chief Resident at University Hospital (now Shands) in Jacksonville. Upon graduation, he opened a medical practice in obstetrics and gynecology with his friend and business partner, Dr. David Mobley. He is survived by his wife Mindy; daughters, Rachel and Erin Murray (Steve); grandson, Colton; mother, Frances Lanier Whaley; sister, Paula (Clifton); brothers, Jonathan (Terri) and Francis and his family; and niece Lauren. He also is survived by his little angel also known as his 7 pound Chihuahua, Princie who he called little man. Walker will be reunited by many deceased loved ones, including his beloved daughter Morgan and his father Paul Wilson Whaley, Jr. I have never known anyone more loved by so many. Walker had such a generous, compassionate spirit, especially for his patients and for those in need. He truly loved people and was quick to laugh. He was good at it! He was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who was lucky enough to meet him. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2012 in Epping Forest Yacht Club. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com. I'm in complete shock! Dr. Whaley performed my hysterectomy ten years and five months ago! He did five laporoscopys to be sure it was cancer before the major surgery. He wanted to be completely sure. I can't believe he's gone! He was such a caring doctor who took the time to listen. He will forever be the doctor who caught my cancer early enough! Thank you so much for being a there!

I am shocked. By chance, I read this notice and was saddened about this loss of a man with a spirit second to none. I was Walker's roommate at Oglethorpe Univ. He was smart, cool, drove a Porsche and had everything going for himself. He was loads of fun and when it came to studying science, he knew it all!!May the days not be long when the fond memories replace our feelings of loss.

I'm in shock. I worked with Dr. Walker in 2005. My nickname he gave me was "catfish".....He said I always had my mouth open asking question. He had a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.

Dear Mindy, I just found out and my heart is so sad for you and Frankie. Frankie helped me start my day care and Boogie was my doc. I can still hear his southern drawl saying my name when he came into the room. He had a ready charm and a love of people that made me feel so happy to be his patient and friend. A lovely man and a lovely family.

I remember when Dr. Whaley told me from the get go that my baby would be at least 10 lb. or more. How right he was; my son weighed 11lb.7oz. Dr. Whaley was such a good listener and encourager. He also really came through for one of my sisters when she was in the hospital and in an emergency situation. Most doctors are good at their job but this remarkable man was truly gifted! And such a blessing. My prayers are with all the family. May the Lord comfort all your hearts as only He can. Sincerely,

Well, Boogie, I stopped reading the T-U and its obits quite awhile back--too much bad news/sad news. So I missed your memorial service. My apologies and condolences to your family. You were a pal and friend for almost half a century and I hate knowing I have to carry on without you here, making this world a better place. The Eagles sang about Gram Parsons,"My man's got it made/ He's gone far beyond the pain/ And we who must remain/ Go on living just the same..." But it won't be the same with Whaley around. Love, Baby Huey

Having been a patient of Walkers's for over thirty years, it will be very difficult for me to fill that void. Walker has his own loyal following and fan club. He was funny, direct, caring and most of all trusted. I will miss you, my friend. Frances, Rachel, Erin, Mindy- may the love and support of friends, colleagues, and family support you through this difficult time.

My first introduction to Dr.Whaley was
during his first year of residency at University Medical Center ( old Duval
Medical Center). I was the new Hospital
Representative for Merrell Labs...he treated me like a friend instead of just a "detail man." His medical abilities made him well respected,
and I was proud to be his friend.
Rest in Peace, Walker.

It has been many years since Walker was my OB, but more than that he was a friend. So sorry I lost touch but very happy to see he had a loving and large family around him. He will be missed. I tell my grandchildren how their daddy was born, with all the complications of the pregnancy and birth and how "Dr. Whaley" was the one that saved both of us. Much love and sympathy to his family.

Growing up in Venetia, everyone knew Rusty's brother as 'Boogie'. He was older and wiser and everyone looked up to him. Reading the other comments, it appears that he hasn't changed. I bought my first mini-bike from him! What a great guy! So long, Boogie!

He took me on in my 8th month when my water was leaking and tested the fluid and put me in the hospital and delivered my son Mike by C-section. It was a dry birth and a transverse lie but he brought us through it. He saved our lives and I will always be greatful for him. He was there when no one else would have touched us. God speed.
