William Bolena III

BOLENA Retired Police Officer William (Bill) Bolena III passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of 67. A native of Pittsburgh, PA and raised in North Carolina, Bill spent most of his life in Jacksonville, FL. After High School, Officer Bolena joined and served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He then joined the Jacksonville, N.C. Police Dept. and also served as a Duke University Police Officer. In July 1980, he joined the J.S.O. and became a Patrolman then worked as a Detective in Burglary, Robbery and Homicide before returning back to patrol in Z3 and later returned to Homicide as well. He retired in July 2001 after serving 20 years with the J.S.O. He then worked for the State of Florida Law Enforcement Fraud Division as a Fraud Investigator for approximately 4 years and transitioned to St. Augustine Beach where he worked as a Detective for 2 years until 2009. Officer Bolena is survived by his wife Ann, son, Paul, daughter, Jennifer Mechling, 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and many loving extended family members. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at at 11am at the Harvest Time Sanctuary Church of God (4502 Old Middleburg Rd. N.) with Pastor Clarence Jarrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
