William Hill "Dick" Goodman was born in Jacksonville Florida on December 5, 1930.
He was the son of William Hardin Goodman and Sabine (Nichols) Goodman and was the brother to previously deceased Hardin Macdonald Goodman and Sabine Goodman Andrews. He was married to and preceded in death by Mary Morrow "Monk" Drake Goodman. They were married in October of 1956. He was also preceded in death by son James Hagood Goodman.
Dick is survived by is son William Hill Goodman, Jr. of Wilmington, NC, Marjorie Drake Goodman of Waynesville, NC, and Eleanor Morrow Goodman of Raleigh, NC.
Dick graduated from Lee High School and the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and is a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. After marrying Monk, he practiced architecture with the firm of W.K. Drake & Associates and later with Daniel Construction Co. Thereafter, he very much enjoyed a long and fulfilling career managing projects with the Rouse Company until his "retirement" when he then founded and began a 12 year stint at the helm of Goodman Consulting.
Monk and Dick spent many years in Maryland where he enjoyed sailing and racing on the Chesapeake Bay. They retired to Cashiers and Asheville NC where he became an avid sportsman shooting sporting clays at his Gun Club and throughout his life, he remained a most enthusiastic Gator fan.
Dick passed away after a brief illness under Hospice Care at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville, NC.
No services will be held at this time. His children will honor his wishes by spreading his ashes in the St. Johns River in Jacksonville Florida, his most favored childhood haunt. Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Johns Riverkeeper at www.stjohnsriverkeeper.org.
